Two major supermarket chains in Canada, Sobeys and Loblaws, are opening
an hour earlier on certain days to allow seniors and those with compromised immunity to stock up before the crowds take over. I understand that this is also happening in the UK. |

I went to our regular pharmacy today to get some expectorant cough syrup .... just in case. The door was locked. They will let you in to pick up prescriptions and they will get other things for you and bring them to the door. A friend went into a local Shoppers Drug Mart last Friday. They was still some toilet paper on the shelves, but while she was there the price jumped from $6.99 to $14.99. Now they are allowing seniors in an hour or two early on Wednesday mornings, but those of us who heard about the price surge on TP aren't planning on going to Shoppers for anything. |

The police can shut them down for that here. You don't have regulations? The TP industry cannot help the supply either. There are a few mayor suppliers and the plants are running 24/7 normally so no room for short term production increases. It is a rather constant year round demand so they produce accordingly. |

If they are producing at a regular rate they should have no problem re-stocking shelves. The major hoarders likely have more than enough, and when people see the shelves being restocked they will stop worrying. A lot of people are well enough stocked that they won't need to buy any more for a while. People probably be using it a lot more sparingly too. |

Happens in the US as well. >How do people prove their compromised immunity? Fairly easy with a doctor's note, same way one gets a handicapped plaque, and proving one is a senior only needs a form of ID with one's birth date, and anyone who isn't blind will know I can't pass for many years less than my 77.... I've easily passed for 70 but only a Texhole would believe I'm less than 55. |

Put that out to the public and potential customers and they are less likely to try to sneak in with us old farts. Some of the seniors might be thrilled to show proof that they really are old. The people who will get ****ed off are those who are trying to skirt the age limit. I can tell you right now that they're gonna need more than an extra hour. My guess is that in the future, when 50% of the population has chronic Covid-19, all shopping will be segregated - old farts, then late baby boomers, Gen Xers, Millennials, etc. The last ones to shop would be babies that are still eligible for abortions. In this way shall humankind live with Covid-19. Well, until the last of the human species is totally wiped out, that is. |

Hoarders, a minority, once having hoarded, disappear from the consumer community. The rest of us (and our suppliers as well) will continue on normally. Oddly enough, we currently have enough TP to wipe an army. The reason being: in the last couple of months, well prior to the Covid-19 hit, Mrs. Beitel decided to "go green" and try out a bunch of different suppliers. So we now have dozens (perhaps hundreds) of rolls of TP stashed in the barn. Perhaps we should try selling some of it on Craigslist, etc. :-) -- Silvar Beitel |
