Â* There are some days I start drinkin' BEFORE noon ... today might be
one of them . It's rainy and my back is killin' me - it always aches in
rainy weather . Yesterday was pretty busy , made 3 batches of bread
products in the afternoon and spent all morning working on that bee
stuff . I have material to finish one more outer top cover , then I'll
be waiting for the next trip to town so I can pick up some more aluminum
flashing to finish the last two .

Â* For everything you ever wanted to know about beekeeping and a lot you
didn't know you needed to know go to www.beesource.com . I'll get it
finished soon , I ran out of the aluminum that I cover the outer tops
with . Without it they rot out way too soon . I thought about using some
fiberglass cloth and polyester resin but that's way more work than
stapling on a piece of flashing .

Yesterday, I de-winterized my sprinkler system and cleared out the damned
earwigs that clog some of the sprinkler heads from the inside of the pipes.
There were six sprinkler heads that needed that done. I dont work low to
the ground well anymore.
Today, I mowed the lawn in the morning and am now concentrating on seeing
how much beer it will take to ease my aching joints.

[ObFood] Tonight will be boneless NY steaks marinated in soy sauce, water
and crushed garlic, good ole chicken Rice-A-Roni and microwaved fresh
broccoli.

Â* Next time you marinate a steak add a little red wine to the mix .
Adds a little flavor , but also tenderizes the meat .

I bought a package of 3 rib steaks last week and have cooked 2 of them. They were beautiful steaks but I'm sick of cooking/eating them. I think I'll try marinating them in a teriyaki sauce. Thanks for the idea. Then I'll be done with them!

I'm also sick of making/eating meat pies! I made some last night. I was too lazy to crack an egg to brush on them before baking so they were brushed with mayo. They turned out fine but I'm done with making them too. I'm running out of trick real fast, it seems.

In the Nevada town where I grew up, a half cup of Kikkoman, a half cup of
water and 3 crushed garlic cloves made the marinade. Three eights inch
thick sliced top sirloin was the meat. The meat marinated in a couple of
hours. Then it was hot sautéed quickly in a skillet and we called it
€œHawaiian Steak€. It all seemed so exotic! What did we know? What
wasnt eaten made superb sandwiches the next day.
I ought to do that again. All I have to do is ask the butcher. Thick NY
steaks arent the same.
Your pastries look delicious.

"Hawaiian steak" is somewhat correct. When I was growing up the local favorite was "teriyaki steak", which was New Zealand rib eye, marinated in a teriyaki sauce, and cooked on a hibachi. These days, teriyaki steak is thinly cut cross-rib roast, with teriyaki sauce. I guess New Zealand ribeye is too expensive. My guess is that NZ ribeye was a grass-fed, cheap, cut back in the old days. These days, my favorite cut for teriyaki steak is flank steak..

It seems that it is not the bees that sting us - it is our fear of getting stung.

We have nothing to fear from the Chinese bees. They don't sting - normally speaking. Auntie lives in some kind of hobbit house. Such a strange land...

My mom is very allergic to bee stings and could quickly die
without immediate attention. People like that should carry an
EpiPen thing but she doesn't.

All that said, bees (and even wasps) are very friendly.
They only sting when they feel threatened. Treat them gently
and you're safe.

Terry was changing the hives and got stung a few times but
that's only because they felt threatened.

Bees really are quite friendly creatures.

Here's a good story about that:
When my daughter was only about age 4-5, one day she was
playing outside barefoot in the yard. Many clovers there
and many bees. She stepped on a bee and it stung her.

She ran inside crying and we fixed her up. Several minutes
later, she came out of her bedroom wearing shoes and
announced that she was going back outside to stomp on all
the mean bees that she could find.

That's when I got up and explained to her that bees are
friendly. I took her outside and quickly found a honey bee
on a clover. I put my finger right next to the clover and
it started walking around on my hand.

I took a finger from other hand and gently petted it.
Daughter was freaking out. Then I convinced her to
pet it herself (very gently) and she did. She couldn't
believe that it didn't sting me.

Then I left it walking around on my hand until it finally flew
off to another clover. Good lesson for her, I thought. That
other bee only stung you because you stepped on it.

All of God's creatures should be respected and more
importantly understood. Bees are cool, imo.

I also used to be the chosen one to paint around wasp nests
up in the eves of a house. Nest was usually in a corner. I
refused to kill them and knock down the nest but I would
do the painting around them.

I remember a good one that was amusing (to me). Big wasp
nest right in a corner. About 100 wasps sitting on it.
I climbed the ladder and painted both sides first away
from the nest.

Last part was painting right next to and even under the
nest on both sides. That is the threatening part so I
painted in very slow motion.

So funny how the wasps reacted to that. Since I was moving
so very slow, they didn't feel threatened but they sure
watched me very closely.

No matter where my hand was, all turned to watch it.
Paint on the other side of nest and all turned to watch
my hand on that side. All 100 of them would turn around
to watch. hehheh

No human (me) or wasps were harmed in the painting of
that house.

Awww bless you I could never have done that)

APPLAUSE!!! Oh boy I wish I could do that) I don't
think Terry would have any problems with that either)))

You are a brave pair)

We have wasps here that attack immediately when you get close to the
nest. And it's painful. Plus, they build their nests hanging off the
gutters or the barbed wire of the fence, so you're bound to walk past
sooner or later.

I guess they know him. <spit>

You must have found the one retarded bee in the garden.

But we do slaughter them and stick them in our pie holes.

How did you tear a muscle in your arm, O? That doesn't sound
like something you might do.
