Default Cheap and tasty lunch

You know those cheap packages of ramen noodles we supposedly lived on in college and even now eat occasionally because we're too lazy to do anything else for lunch that day?

1 package cheap ramen noodles

1/2 to 1 cup chopped up protein appropriate to the noodles flavor. Personally, I like "seafood" or "oriental" flavor with frozen mixed seafood, bags of which are cheap and seem to be marketed generally for paella.

1/2 to 1 cup kimchee.

A splash of sesame oil to serve.

Not rocket surgery, of course, but quick, cheap, easy, tasty, good for two meals.

Well, it does sound rather good and fast to make.

You might want to try using Korean noodles instead. Nongshim Neoguri is a thick, chewy, satisfying, noodle that's light years ahead of that Japanese stuff. It will cost a budget-busting two bucks or so but the good things in life don't cost two bits. I get the noodles at the Korean mart in 4 packs for 6 bucks. I like to shop smart.

I do that all the time with left over meat, typically pork. There
were four slices of boneless pork loin in the fridge, so I jullianed
them for a soup... four stalks of celery sliced, two sweet onions
sliced, a piece of ginger root grated, a packet of Goya chicken
bouillion, a few drops of yellow food coloring for show, fresh ground
white peppercorns, four large garlic cloves minced, one large carrot
diced, dill weed, an 8 oz can of 'shrooms, perhaps I forgot something,
thickened with corn starch slurry. pork will be added later. No ramen
this time. That'll be my dinner, Kath is having a salad.

Today our new steel hose reel arrived from Amazon, very nice, very
well made, and well worth the $169, much better than those stupid
plastic ones that barely last one year... took me only an hour to put
it together and get the hose on it and all ready to go. Our tomato
seeds arrived today from Hudson Valley Seed Company.
I attempted to mow the side field today but too wet, almost got bogged
down, very thankful for 4 wheel drive... and we are supposed to get
thunder showers tonight... I'll just need too wait for some hot sun.

I just bought some instant ramen yesterday - 4 for $1.50. That's for my granddaughter. For us adults, we get the Korean noodles. Is that wrong?

Ramen in America costs like 10¢ a packet, in bulk even less,
Ukelele land is a giant rip off. I can only imagine what yoose
ukeleles pay for Spam... I pay about $1.39 for a 12 ounce can in three
packs at BJs.

Where I live is paradise, you live in hell... you're simply too stupid
to realize that you live in a filthy toilet.

It's truly a store although none here in the South. I've got a couple of
friends that live in the north and they've spoken of this store more than
once.

You might want to try using Korean noodles instead. Nongshim Neoguri is a
thick, chewy, satisfying, noodle that's light years ahead of that Japanese
stuff. It will cost a budget-busting two bucks or so but the good things in
life don't cost two bits. I get the noodles at the Korean mart in 4 packs
for 6 bucks. I like to shop smart.

I will look out for those, but I don't hold out too much hope)

The Koreans have been on this rock for 100 years so we have local Korean Americans that are just like you or me and we also have FOB Koreans that are kind of a hoot. They keep us on our toes. The Korean marts are pretty awesome. I canna say if there be any in Scotland tho.

That's true, Sheldon. I've seen ramem for 10/$1.00.
I even saw it once at 12/$1.00
Last time I bought it, was 8/$1.00

For being such remote states, Hawaii and Alaska pay
much more than the "lower 48" does. It's the cost
of delivery.

Want to see extremely high prices? Check out the northern
parts of Alaska, especially what they pay for anything
during the winter months.

Many of those people buy food and supplies during the
summer in large quantities. Enough to last them the
entire year until the next summer.

I know that BJ's does have discounted. I bought a can of spam
yesterday for $3.19 but this store does often have higher
prices. I've seen it as low as $2.50 each.

I don't know about you, Bruce, but "immature" people like me
have always gotten a laugh out of that name. Yes, it's real.

Butthead: Uhhh huh huh. He just said "BJs"
Beavis: Yeah Yeah, mehhh eheh heh heh That was pretty cool

The priest at the local Parrish sent one of the alter boys to town to get a carton of Kools 100s. On his way, he saw a lady that was dressed kind of funny. She said to him "BJs, 20 bucks. This frightened him and he hurried off to town. He bought the cigarettes and started walking back. He saw a strange and dirty man in a dark alley. The man said "BJs, 20 bucks." Of course, that frightened him and he ran all the way back to the church. Upon his arrival, he asked the priest "Father, what's a BJ?"

"20 bucks, same as town, my son."

If you were't such an ignoranus you could have searched on line.

BJs stores are all over around here, it's a chain of very large stores
that sell many products from furniture, to TVs, to tires, and
especially foods in bulk at wholesale prices... many restaurants buy
there. A membersip is required but we more than make up the $25 cost
in one shopping trip.

We don't live in a town, we live in a rather small Village with only
one small food market. But large stores are not far way, BJs is about
a 20 mile drive and we shop there about once a month... very good
savings for buying by the case.

It's also because it came from Sheldon, the man who gets turned on by
cow udders.

Sounds good. I sometimes add things to the cheap ramen noodles
for a decent thing to eat. I also like the "oriental" flavor
best.

I've never looked for, or heard of, a bag of "frozen mixed
seafood." That sounds interesting.

The name is probably what attracted Sheldon to that store in
the first place. heh heh

We have Costco and Sam's Club here but I don't shop at either. I don't spend
enough to warrant a membership nor to drive the 30+ mile round trip to visit
either one.

I used to think it was not worth it to drive the 20 miles to the nearest
Costco and to pay a membership. My good friend and his wife are big fans
of Costco and I came to realize that they carry a lot of good products
at good prices. My wife loves cheese and they carry a number of quality
cheese products that they sell for a fraction if grocery store prices.
For instance, my wife picked up a wedge of Brie at a local Zehrs. It
was about $6 for a piece that was about 1/5th of a wheel of the same
product that Costco sells for $10. She also likes double smoked
Cheddar. $9 for a chunk of it at Zehrs and Costco sells blocks of it
that are about four time the size for $15. So when I go to Costco I get
a whack of cheese, a bag each of salmon fillets, rainbow trout fillets
and shrimp. That makes the membership and the trip worth while.

The last time I was in Costco was about 8 years ago to buy a new flat screen
TV. My brother said I could buy it there and they'd get the points. Fine
with me.
