Here in UK, the value is in the property size, > structure, location and public amenities/services. So perhaps we regard > our property values in a different time frame than a season of unmown > grass or overgrown bushes. We have a concept called "curb appeal". If someone shopping for a house doesn't like the looks of the neighbor's yard, they won't buy the house. It's purely psychological. People think, "If the neighbors cannot be bothered to mow their lawn, what other bad habits will they have?" We're not talking about any kind of flowers. We're talking about knee-high grass and weeds. Cindy Hamilton |

It's not a pretty wilderness, it's lazy, shiftless, no care homeowners devaluing everybody's property in their neighborhood. Not always, but many times these unkept yards contain broken-down cars, old washing machines, tires scattered about, and the occasional clothes dryer. The house sometimes will match the yard; in need of lots of maintenance. Yards in the examples above attract snakes, rats, ticks, and chiggers just to name a few critters. |
