That 'lectric mower is sending signals through the power cord to the
evil spies that use smartphones to gather all his information. They're
sending all this ill-gotten info to all the nursing agencies in da Loo.

It's electric, of course. He's been yelling about gasoline powered
anything for years. It would be much more impressive if he'd use a
reel-type push mower to mow that grass. He's using coal-generated
electricity instead.

Yeah, I got a better digital camera! A almost $200 Canon!

Before I was using a foundling Android HTC Desire 610 I found in the Market In The Loop, which is slowly going to hell after dumping their #1 tenant Long Acre Farms, who set up shop off Westgate after a rapacious Capitalist dump them after 43 years of consistent tenancy! And I KNOW! Because around 1979 Fred and I bought a cardboard carton of strawberries and were amazed that every strawberry was perfect! Back when Bryan and I lived in 608 Kingsbury, APT 405!

Where *I* invented the Cheep Effects! For which I STILL have the sign on my bedroom door:

Remember Bryan?

He really shouldn't mow at all, he should just allow the grass to grow
long and wild flowers develop, that way he would save some bees and
other little creatures.

That used to be my approach too. But then I end up mowing grass that's
taller than me and I can't see anymore what wildlife I'm mowing over
until I'm over it. Damage so far: one no longer identifiable rodent,
one young tree snake and the odd cane toad. Beats me why they don't
get out of the way when I approach with my noisy machine. The rodent
(antechinus?) might have been defending a nest. Cane toads rely on
their poison.

Oh please. Get real. No one that lives in suburbia can just
quit mowing their lawn. To (not) do that, you need to move way
out
in the sticks where no one cares.

If John quit mowing his small lawn the neighbors would
complain to the city and the city would force him to cut it.

You live in a condo high-rise. If that has any grass at
all, they cut it every week or two. The hell with the
flowers, bees, and other little creatures.

You're not exactly correct. I do live in a condo but I and another
person have 'wildized' the back now and most owners are raving over it
and sit out in the chairs provided to watch all the birds etc. They do
cut the grass in the front, but come to think of it, if we didn't we
don't have neighbours there to protest, maybe we should give that a
try!

I'm sure urban and suburban areas in the Land Down Under have similar restrictions.

Perhaps Australians aren't as shiftless as Americans and don't have to be forced
to keep their lawns in good condition.

No, Brian is still making denigrating remarks about John. Both are in
the Smell the pasta thread. Rather sad really.

Some countries seem to set and maintain high standards and expect
residents to work hard to keep the town looking nice. Back in the early
90s when we stayed at a friend's flat in a town in Germany the children
were expected to go out and sweep the street in front of their homes.

I have read of cases in Toronto where a woman had a wild garden in her
front yard. She ended up going to court with the city and won.

I knew a guy locally who was ordered by the city to mow his long. This
guy was by no means a dummy. He had a very successful accounting
practice. He was physically lazy and just couldn't be bothered mowing.
I took my lawn tractor over and it took me several hours to get it
mowed. I left the trimming to him.

I always thought I was finished after I had mowed. Now I hear of this
activity called 'trimming'?

That's pretty cool to turn your back yard back to natural and
no one complain.

Hypothetically, what would happen in your village if someone stopped maintaining
their property? Let their front garden simply go? Would his neighbors simply
have to put up with it?

Many urban areas in the US have laws that require regular mowing,
deters disease carrying vermin. However where I live in a rural area
most people only mow for baling hay. My neighbor was here two days
ago haying my wildflower meadow, got 85 square bales of bedding hay.
Took him a total of 20 hours of cutting, raking, and baling. He sells
the bales for $5 each, all sold to a cattle farm a 1/2 mile down the
road. He uses all his very expensive equipment and fuel... saves me
from a full day of mowing about ten times... a fair deal. He would
normally get two cuttings but we have him cut it once at the end of
summer so the baby critters can live there.
