Other than the weird politics, I would think that would be the makings of a great uncle. We all had toy guns when we were kids, BB or pellet guns when we got older. I got shotgun when I was 15 and when I was 16 I got a .303. I trained as a weapons tech in the reserves and I find the engineering of firearms and the ballistics to be very interesting. That being said, I prefer our system of gun control to be that of the US. I have no problem with people owning rifles and shotguns and even handguns. I like that we can own handguns and use them on target ranges, but that people can't carry them in public. Unfortunately, we have a criminal problem that our current government keeps trying to use band-aid solutions in the form of stricter regulations instead of using the current laws to deal with criminals. |

Getting your 16 year old nieces and nephews a rife for their birthday seems like an eminently bad idea. What the heck is that supposed to do for them? https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2...2831422808.jpg |

I know that he's holding an AR-15 clone. It a gun for folks military/police/hero fantasies. All you know about kids is that you're scared of them. |

My husband has an AR-15 style rifle. I shot it the last time I was at the range with him. Neither of us has the fantasies you described. What evidence do you have that I"m scared of kids? Same logic. That's no logic at all. Epic fail. I don't have any Rolls Royces, either. It's not because you don't own one. It's because of this: "I wouldn't ever own a gun. They'll kill you instantly and permanently. " That's fear talking. Lots of things will kill you instantly and permanently, yet you haven't mentioned any of those. Guns can also be used harmlessly, yet you don't acknowledge that fact. Cindy Hamilton |

While that is true, I had to do those same SRA reading comprehension things.. It wasn't that I found them boring, but that the questions were so obvious. John must have had a better 3rd grade teacher. My 5th grade teacher was great. She never made me do busywork--as if I'd have done it anyway--but she didn't just make allowances for me. She really inspired almost every student. For math, I worked ahead at a desk in the hall, and for science I went to the classroom of my former 2nd grade teacher to assistant teach things like weather science. Second graders can relate to fifth graders because it's easier to imagine themselves as 5th graders than as adults. > > Jill --Bryan |
