Default The Chopped Cheese - A Brooklyn Staple

The Chopped Cheese is New York's unsung hero, the . Every bodega
and gin mill from Brooklyn to Lung Island serves these for free
along with the all-you-eat shrimp and chicken wings as long you pay
the $.10 for all-night-long cheap booze.

What is the bread there? I like the small roll size.

i'd give it a try, but it looks like hamburger with
white sauce, perhaps that is the cheese...

"enriched wheat flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin,
reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), water,
yeast, bolillo base (sugar, wheat gluten, guar gum, vegetable fat
(palm oil, rapeseed oil), calcium diphosphate, ascorbic acid,
enzymes), contains less than 2% of:, soybean oil, salt, wheat flour,
soy oil, inactive yeast"

And we're calling it "bread". We're not saying it IS bread. We're
calling it "bread".

Growing up in Brooklyn and living on Lung Guyland for many years I
never heard of "chopped cheese " or ever saw any crap like that Texass
trash.

It was invented long after you left, and is most popular in the Bronx, Harlem,
and Queens.

Thanks. My store sells those too 4/$3.99. I looked yesterday.

What I really thought they might be is the cibatta bread but
I couldn't think of that name. Those are good, fresh baked.

If you go to a chemistry store, you can buy the ingredients for a lot
less.

€œA good chopped cheese has to come from a bodega that has bulletproof glass, a cat, and a guy behind the counter named Mohammed, Papi, or Ahki..€

That cracked me up. Thanks for the link.

It reminds me of New Jerseyians and their Taylor Pork Roll Sandwiches.

I never considered those areas part of NYC, especially Queens.
