I've been getting such HUGE cantaloupes I split my Fruit Snacks in half and eat one half fresh and put the other half in the fridge.
I gently warm the refrigerated half on my microwave's "Time Defrost" setting for 30mins set to "Power Level" 1. John Kuthe, Climate Anarchist, Suburban Renewalist ands Vegetarian |

You've described your fruit snacks with ice cream. Why do you warm up the half cantaloupe? I would think all of the fruit should be chilled then ice cream added when it's time to eat. |

I assume he meant 3 minutes on "power level 1" but I still don't know why he would want to heat it. It's a cold fruit dessert with ice cream. I would assemble that fruit snack early, then refrigerate it in a covered bowl until time to eat it later. > Sheeit - Gary cooks raw chicken at that setting. Cooking chicken in a microwave works well if you do it right and don't need a crispy skin. Certainly NOT all in 3 minutes though. Takes a series of small steps in a covered bowl. |

Stupidmarket canteloupe is awful, it's picked green and once picked any melon doesn't ripen... they're picked unripened to survive transportation. We grow our own, once you've eaten vine ripened melon you'll never go back. |

No. It doesn't. Cooking meat in a microwave is so wrong. Even *thawing* frozen raw meat in a microwave is wrong. In the First Circle of Hell, you get to eat meat, at least occasionally, but it's cooked in a microwave. The folks consigned there will know that had they just been a bit more virtuous, they'd be chowing down on deep fried chicken in Heaven for eternity. You'd be like, "Ha, I actually *like* microwaved meat," which would **** off The Devil. I'd suggest that you pretend to not like microwaved chicken, but those damned Usenet archives... --Bryan |

I'm going to cook chicken hindquarters in a rotisserie tonight and tomorrow, the remainder will be cooked sous vide and fried. It'll be chicken heaven alright - especially for the chickens because they'll be dead. |

One morning he went into the kitchen to make a cup of instant coffee (as usual) He found a saucepan of water on the stove so he just heated it up and made his coffee. Don't let it interrupt your sleep, Steve. My time will be correct on Sunday morning. That said, I'm about to lose this old computer very soon anyway. Maybe even by Sunday morning. I need to get a different email address today or tomorrow too. As I mentioned, AT&T is finally canceling their dial-up service. As for the Win98 computer...still a good one with many programs that I use. Just too old for internet use now. |

I may compost 1/2 and buy a new one tomorrow. Who mentioned anything about baking? Nice wastage of produce, too. All that wasted fossil fuels was all for nothing. You made an American eagle cry. I hope you're proud. |

You must have the cheapest Chinese microwave on the planet if you can "barely warm" a refrigerated cantaloupe after 30 minutes on low.Â* 30 minutes on a counter would bring it to room temperature, "dipshit". |

If so, he may find that cooking them softens them up enough to eat, though they would probably not be sweet and rather tasteless. Still good enough for a VSFS (vegetarian standard fruit snack) |

Once harvested keep it on your kitchen counter for up to 48 hours. Melons do not ripen further once harvested... what you think you smell as ripeness is the odor of fermentation/rot. Melons should not be cut until it's time to eat them... pineapple the same. Some fruit will ripen after harvest; tomatoes, pears, bananas... many will not. Odds of anyone eating a field ripened pineapple on the US mainland is very rare, only if someone brings it to you from where it's grown, field ripened pineapple does not ship well... the closest you'll come to field ripened pineapple on the US mainland is canned. Hawaii doesn't grow much pineapple anymore, that real estate is too valuable for farming. Most pineapple is grown in the Philipines, where labor is far cheaper. |
