I wonder about some of those accountability ratings for charities. I
worked with a charity that provided horse riding lessons for the
mentally and physically disabled and spent a couple years on the board.
Our rating did not look good on paper and had a high percentage spent on
administration. Our instructor was the only one who was paid a stipend.
she had to go to a lot of effort and expense to get qualifications and
she was only getting $20 per session (3 hours). We had to buy a few
special saddles. There were the usual admin costs for mail, but the big
costs were board for the horses and insurance. Board was $400 per horse
per month. We had four horses. We paid for three and the owner donated
the fourth.

Then there is our CBC which has appointed itself as the public
conscience for their pet issues. They usually have three issues they are
pushing at any time. It gets to the point where you can't tune in for
more than 5 minutes without them mentioning one of their current pet
issues. Those issues do deserve some air time, but when you consider
everything else that is going on in the country, they spent way too much
time on them.

I never give to the Sallies! Their big shelter wil turn away down &outs who
are under the influence of drink or drugs when it's -35C. The secular
shelter never turns anyone away. The other "christian" shelters are the
same.

A landline is required and is directly connected to the security system.
Every house on the island has one. I like the Answerphone because of
the annouce feature; 99% of the time those robo dialed calls disconnect
the minute the answering machine kicks in.

Having had prostate cancer, I used to make a big donation to the main
cancer charity. However, after one such donation, they pestered me so much
in the following weeks that I asked them to take me off their list. I
checked the tax authority's charity list and found out that the CEO of that
charity was making north of $300k. I figured he could make a donation for
me.

The Calgary food bank is one of the better, if not THE best-run charity in
Canada. Pay scales are very reasonable so it's on my list.

OTOH the commercial radio staions provide no balance whatsoever. Commercial
talk radio just spews ultra right wing propaganda.
As much as I support the CBC, I do tend to agree with you about their
obsessions. Just lately it seems to have been all queer and trannie issues.

Prostate was long neglected until they started Movember. I turned on
my local news one night back when to see my middle grandson, with a
couple of friends, in diapers with moustaches on them, up on Citadel
Hill in the freezing cold. He had actually had testicular cancer at
age 20 and had to have a testicle removed. What concerned us was the
doctor telling him 'there has been an explosion in young men your age
having testicular cancer (more normally it is found in older men) and
we are working on trying to find out why' - alarming. He lives in
your province now, up in Grande Prairie.

AIUI TC is now considered to be a young man's disease. Glad it was caught
in time, as was my PC (operated on 23 years ago last Tuesday).

CBC OTOH will balance the leftist stance by having a far right radical
idiot extremist.

They will bash the Conservatives at every opportunity. What a
coincidence since the Cons had slashed their budget Trudeau said he
would restore their funding. CBC realizing the Liberals were the best
bet to beat the Cons did their best to support them,

> As much as I support the CBC, I do tend to agree with you about their

That would be about 1/3 of it. Then their are "first nations" and anti
black racism The first is a constant. The other two go in and out when
other pet issues rise to the surface. The repetition is propaganda. They
can only do that if you listen. I have gotten into the habit of turning
it off as soon as they start. I used to listen to CBC almost
exclusively. I used to hear intelligent people say that had heard
something interesting on CBC. That has not happened in years,

Lots of religious drivel:

"Rev Ken Porter is available to fill the pulpit at your church. Rev
Porter has preached at more than 77 different churches, and has
preached 1000s of times. His content is relevant, grace-filled and
Biblically based."

Statement of Faith

Statement

€¢ We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, ultimately
authoritative Word of God."

etc.

As it *should* be, Graham...

Having worked/volunteered in homeless services over the years, including at a number of shelters, sobriety is a *must*...many shelter guests are battling addiction, allowing those "under the influence" in is very dangerous for those battling to stay sober. There are drug dealers "embedded" within the shelter system, they'll flit from place to place, knowing they'll have a steady customer base in some of the shelters. Additionally, non - sober guests engage in "disruptive" behaviours, in a well - run shelter, that is simply not on!

Years ago I volunteered as an overnight monitor at a small shelter, they had a strict sobriety policy, One freezing February evening, a guest came in drunk. Per agency policy, I immediately required him to leave. in the morning he could come back and see his case manager, and proceed from there. He knew the rules, and it was his responsibility to abide by the rules. This shelter was very successful, they placed 89% of their guests eventually in permanent stable housing. As a successful program, requiring guest sobriety was agency policy...this was a strictly "secular" shelter BTW...

The very *worst* thing to do is enable someone's bad behaviours, no progress will be made. Unfortunately, in today's lax behavioural climate, that is SOP...thus the vast explosions of homeless in some US cities, most especially on the West Coast...and you in Canada have the sorry example of Vancouver.

I *do* know that in the guise of "socialism", over 100 million people have been murdered during the last 103 years - I'm dating from 1917's "Glorious October Revolution"...and socialism is *today* murdering innocents in North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela...

Thank you for donating to The Salvation Army, they are very responsible stewards of their resources, and they do *real* work in saving lives. Unlike publicly - funded organisations, they hew to strict metrics, thus getting results. Publicly - funded orgs are more often than not top - heavy in bureaucracy and thus extra associated costs. Also, they more often than not do not have a goal - oriented mission, they are simply "babysitters", e.g. the participants make no real progress in moving ahead with their lives...a dire result of soft - hearted leftist/liberal SJW types running these programs!

I got to watch some of the episodes I'd missed yesterday. It was
amusing when she picked up a towel and mopped off her face saying how
very hot it was next to that stove. You won't see people doing that
on "modern" cooking shows. I also noted (and some the of the chefs
mentioned) she was cooking on an electric stovetop.

She had some fantastic knife skills. Personally, I don't need to be
able to slice a potato or an onion that fast but it's fun to see.

After that they aired a few episodes of 'In Julia's Kitchen'. I'd never
seen any of that series, either. Fun stuff!

With your vocabulary limited to the F word you can't claim having any
intelligence/intelect, in fact you are the epitomy of an IMBECILE.
Compared to Kootchie Bryan has the brain of an ameba. Why are you
here, you can't cook and you can't speak intelligently.

That's why I r.a.r.e.l.y. answer the phone. Two dead giveaways that it is
a scammer/telemarketer are the name is displayed as "Unavailable" and
they never leave a message. A legitimate caller will leave a message.
The only exception I've found are the dumbasses calling to sell a car
warranty. They will leave a message and they will call again and again
and again and again and always with a different spoofed number.

I don't feel like the young expect something in return for their donation. I feel
the organization is trying to tug at your heart strings and also make you feel
guilty. "Well, since they sent me this calendar, notecards, and all these return
address labels I guess I better send a donation." The post office says they
are gifts from the organization and they are ours to keep free of charge. So,
I do!

My eldest son-in-law had it 18 years ago, had the op but just recently
his PSA has taken a jump again so they have him on some hormonal

Fact remains, they are doing an excellent job here. I may be an

I'm more of an agnostic. I know nuttin'. Personally, I wouldn't
support bible thumpers, but to each their own, of course.
