I thought it out very well, and figured I had to get everything out of the bottom of the Kitchen Closet (done) and mount some shelf rails, which I've done. See pic. And today, I went Home Depot and bought a 4x4ft piece of almost 1/2" plywood and will cut 18"x30.5" shelves from and use my remaining 2x2s to mount a stiffener under them, then lay them on the rails, and voila! New shelves at 20" and 40", 18"x30.5" to put the stuff on! John Kuthe... |

Plywood makes for lousy shelving, especially if it's interior plywood with a rough knotty exterior ply. The different plys are of different woods so absorb moisture at different rates making it warp and twist... much better to use 5/8" clear pine shelving lumber... looks richer too... plywood shelving is for poor hippie's book shelves that they lay across c-ment blocks. Save that half sheet of plywood for something else, good for crawling under your vehicle... may be good for parking your riding mower on to deter dry rotted tires. |

My son had a problem with rats in his house after he complained to the city about the absentee landlord owner of the house next door having a huge pile of crap in the yard. Then the mess was cleaned up the rats when looking for a new home sad got into his. They got into his cupboards and ate his food. They chewed holes in the walls. They were quite brazen and seemed to have no fear of him. He had to hire an exterminator. |

All plywood is fake wood... plywood is only a **** hair closer to lumber than partical board. I never bought any plywood, I never will. I just went looking with a micrometer so I could measure and there's not one bit of plywood in this house. Every stick of lumber used to build this house was made from trees growing on this property, and all is full nominal size, a 2" X 4" stud measures a full 2" X 4"s... some used to build the barn is over sized and still has some bark on it. Years ago lumber here was milled from buttonwood, aka sycamore. All the sheathing is 3/4" tongue and groove nailed on a bias. one thing I must say about those square headed Norwegians is they are great carpenters. I'll bet yoose don't know that the Norwegians and Swedes invented the chainsaw. https://www.jonsered.com/us/ |

Note the bottom shelf is already sagging and the upper shelf is bowed upward. -sw |

The camera can be tricky in how it scales things but if the total depth (to back wall from the open front) in 36-38inches and the wide (side to side) is 30.5, then about right and leave room for brooms and stuff if you need that. The problem is the visual appears to be more like 50-60 inches. That might be camera related though. If it is a lot deeper, you can add more rail later and extend out along it 12 more inches with little trouble later. Lots of ideas though if as it seems, it's 30.5 side to side in there. It almost looks at the base like people stepped in there to get at things? |
