My granddaughter works in the bakery at a Publix supermarket. They
decided to have a Christmas cookie exchange. Many people have them at work, or a club and such, but this is the best I've ever seen. Everyone there bakes for a living. They all like to bake. At home they make some really good cookies, fudge, assorted baked stuff that is just fantastic. Hint: if ever invited to join a cookie exchange, choose the bakery, not the motor pool or landscaping department. We have enough goodies for weeks. |

Thursday I'm planning on making sausage balls and fruitcake cookies. Most of the cookies will be going with me to my nephew's Christmas breakfast. |

And most of the cookies there were not home baked. People bought packaged cookies. Ick. |

The bread uses a can of some kind of Swedish soft drink that's available during the holidays. Coca-Cola is a substitution. https://photos.app.goo.gl/NP86pCqm3pjM2XBK8 |

I do wish they had told me a package was on the way though as it could have been stolen from my doorstep. I came in at noon Saturday then stayed home. Opened the door at 5:30am Sunday morning and found the box at my door. That's up to 17.5 hours sitting outside my door. Especially not so safe in an apartment complex vs a private rural house. |

I think I just sprained my eyes while rolling them. My wife got into a Christmas cookie exchange once. It seemed to be typical of many exchanges where no one seemed to be happy. The were supposed to bring a certain number of cookies for each of the others in the exchange. The complaints were that some of the cookies were just plain cheap, some weren't fancy enough, some were way too small. One of more complained about my wife's contribution. Apparently they were not special enough for Christmas. Megatron was ****ed. It was my mother's recipe and she loved them and thought of them as a special Christmas treat. They were not cheap to make. They were made with butter and brown sugar and a lot of pecans. There were ground pecans in the cookies and half pecan meats on top. I had to agree with her that they were the nicest and tastiest of all the cookies at that exchange. She never bothered with cookie exchanges again. |
