That's what I did back in March when I found out the Barber shop I used was closed. I thought I'd better get my butt down to Wally World and get a hair trimmer set before they're sold out. I bought a Wahl with guides for different lengths, combs, scissors, oil, etc. It was about $45. I cut mine in the bathroom in front of the mirror holding a handmirror in one hand and trimmers in the other and standing on a 30 gallon trash bag. I'll never go back to paying for haircuts. At my age and with the amount of hair I have left I don't need no steenking styling. |

At my age and with the amount of hair I have left > I don't need no steenking styling. I've got a Covid-19 haircut. Last time at the barber was early Sept 2019, well over a year ago. Just as I was planning to go last March, the Covid stuff hit. Because of that, I still don't go for one. My hair is the longest it's been in about 40 years but I'm getting used to it. Old hippy Gary. lol I do have a hair trimmer set that my Mom sent me after my Dad died. She used on him. I might try it myself someday or might wait until my daughter comes to visit, whenever that might be. It's hard to cut the back of your hair by yourself. Using the 2 mirror method is odd and takes a good while to do. |

The last one was the day before my mother's memorial service and that was 12 years ago. I bought a new clipper set this year. Five minutes in front of the mirror and drop the clippings into the wastepaper basket and a minute to vacuum and I save $20 and get a better haircut that I do from a barber. |

Obviously you're mostly bald so there's nothing to style, just lather up your few strands and take the razor to it, then take out the can of Simonize styling wax and a clean flannel for buffing, or get your wife excited and wet and have her use her cotton panty crotch to give you a spit shine. I on the other hand have a full head of very thick wavy hair, a while ago I took professional 'lectric clippers to it, there was so much hair on the floor that the Dyson struggled to get it all. Plus I did a very uneven job on the back and sides as I like it tapered, in fact it looked so bad I was about to get out the shaving cream and razor as well. Nope, I can well afford the twenty bucks to have Dawn at the unisex salon in town do me same as she has for twenty years, 3-4 times each year. Twenty years ago it cost ten bucks but prices have steadily gone up all over. All I need do is phone and Dawn always fits me in for a quickie... when she's doing the women they can take hours... that salon does mostly women. There are two barber shops in town but neither give appointments, it's first come first served and I don't want to sit there for an hour or longer, plus they are not barbers, they are hair cutters, big difference. Nowadays real barbers are few and far between, it's very rare to find one that can use sissors properly and that's licensed to shave. Years ago when I lived in Brooklyn I went to a real barber shop where I could get my hair cut (entirely with scissors), get shaved with hot towels and a straight razor so my face was smooth like a baby's ass, and even get a manicure at the same time. I don't think real barber shops exist anymore, least I know of none around here... living in farm country closest I've seen are dog groomers and professional sheep shearers. I think most real barbers are now pushing up daisies. We used to have a real barber shop in town, it used to be, but for perhaps 30 years now it's a real estate office... I know the history because my next door neighbor's uncle built that building for the barber who was also a watchmaker. I don't think real barber's chairs are made anymore, you can maybe find one at an antique emporium, today haircutter chairs are really no different from salon chairs and computer chairs. |

I had been paying a senior's rate but when the barber found out where I live, she upped her price by $5. |

We got denied for the loan because of our income to debt ratio, so we paid off my wife's car loan, and are paying off the mortgage on our house next week. We'll then own two houses outright, and our only debt will be the car loan on my son's car. I had to be on the loan, but he makes the payments, and the same will be the case with *his* future house. Because my wife nor I will be living there, the bank considers it "investment property," and wants 17% down (no problem there), and a 5.5% interest rate. I guess that's no big deal, because in 2 or 3 years there will be 20% equity, and my son will have demonstrable income, so we can refinance it with him as the primary, and quit claim it to him while the equity is still low enough to avoid gift tax. I'm going to try to find an alternative by explaining all the details to a morgage banker, using our properties as collateral. You don't get better deals unless you ask. --Bryan |

Thinning would be a better description. I don't like hair touching my ears. My father was a Sergeant major in the army. He spit shined his shoes every evening and got a hair cut every week. I got one every 2 weeks. He'd tell me "Report to the barber shop". The barber was already paid. The fastest haircut I ever had was one I got in Atlanta after being sworn into the Army. It took a minute at the most to shear it off. |
