It was delicious. My wife had picked up some nice big sea scallops and
some asparagus. The plan was to pan sear the scallops and to steam the asparagus. She had not thought about a starch, so I thought that pasta aioli would work. Even better, we had a few frozen shrimp left over from last week, nice big ones. I thawed and shelled them and then fried them in the pan with the oil and garlic. I did a better job on the scallops than I usually do. I used a much hotter pan and left them on long enough to give them a really good sear. What a difference that made. It gave a much better texture to the sear, and an amazing sweetness. |

I don't do the shopping, and if she brings home asparagus I am not likely to complain because I like it. It might be a different matter if she tried it with Swiss chard or turnips. |

I wouldn't have a problem with that! I would have a problem if someone brought me chard or turnips. LOL Jill |

It might be a different matter if >she tried it with Swiss chard or turnips. We like chard, we grow a lot and quite a few people like it... it's very good in a tossed salad, also slice out the central rib and dice for soups/stews. One neighbor likes chard in her green smoothies. We haven't had luck growing turnips, we don't use insecticide so the larve like to tunnel into it. Why can't you do shopping too, then you can buy what you like. We both do the shopping. I do better buying meats and produce, my wife buys most everything else because she's willing to drive further to the stores that have better prices on cleaning products... plus those stores are near to where she goes to her hair dresser, her doctors, and where she buys clothing. We buy a lot of canned foods on line, costs less and since we buy by the case it can be heavy, easier shipped right to our door. I don't have the local stores deliver because I prefer to pick meats and produce myself... canned goods don't matter who picks, it's all the same. All the cat food is delivered by the case, that's heavy too, Chewy does a very good job and the UPS driver brings it right into our garage. Chewy uses brown paper as packing material, I flatten and fold it, makes good weed block in our garden. I break down the heavy cartons and tape them so they don't open and they fit into the trash can. It's a shame to throw away all those brand new heavy corrogated cartons but no one wants them. |
