He might have won a Nobel - if they gave out awards for best original screenplays.

How common is the name Bruce for a baby born in 2019?

Bruce was the 472nd most popular boys name.
In 2019 there were 616 baby boys named Bruce.
1 out of every 3,099 baby boys born in 2019 are named Bruce.

They don't say for which country this is, so it's probably the US

You came in 40 to my 348. (Edwin)
All the Leo's I know are over 60. I guess it was even more popular
years ago.
Only thing with my name is people assume my fill name is Edward. If you
call me that, chances are I will ignore you.

We should not make assumptions on gender. Is joannotjoanne a woman?

Joan was the 1165th most popular boys name and 1595th most popular girls
name.
In 2019 there were 165 baby boys and 132 baby girls named Joan.

What about Eddie?

It's not woke to distinguish between men and women. It's not inclusive
to people who identify as "they". Kindergarten teachers should also
not address the children as "boys and girls" anymore. This can be
traumatic and lead to a feeling of exclusion for some of the children.
Be woke!

There were less than five (possibly no) children named Sheilah born in
2019.

Sheila however:
Sheila was the 2072nd most popular girls name.
In 2019 there were only 90 baby girls named Sheila.
1 out of every 20,254 baby girls born in 2019 are named Sheila.

Without going to Google or Wikipedia, I've never met or even heard of
a woman who was actually called Sheila, except for Sheila E., but
she's American. I think Bruce used to be a common male name. Probably
not anymore.

I beat you both. David was 27. However, I get no credit for it. It was
my parents who named me. Even worse, it is not even my first name. My
first name is down in the 400s. I have always gone by by second name.

I have a 7 year old great nephew named Leo.

My father's older brother was Edward, but he always went by Ted. His
second name was Dunstan, and I have no idea where that came from.

It is a touchy topic these days. Goodness knows why, but some people
want to keep their kid's sex a secret these days, maybe they are really
looking for a sense of curiosity. When I go to one of the Canadian Tire
stores in the area I always seem to end up with the same cashier, an
androgynous young person. He was very feminine looking, or she was quite
masculine area. It's dangerous to look at name tags these days because
it may be mistaken for checking out boobs... Pat!!!!! argh

My understanding is that it's a thing these days to have a party before the kid is delivered. The purpose, of which, is to have the baby's gender revealed. That's so goofy!

No, be up to date and woke please. Parents don't reveal the gender of
the child. How would they know? The child will reveal its gender when
it's ready to do so.

Gender reveal is not all it is cracked up to be. I did it once and now
I'm not allowed back in that grocery store.

I´ve always been fond of Sheila, Rachel and Gretchen as girl´s names. I
have no idea why. I knew a Gretchen once, but she didn´t know me. Had I
been able to name a baby girl, she would have had one of those three names.

Amazingly, they know somehow. That once cherished right of newborns to do a gender reveal has been taken away from them. Surveys taken find that 8 out of 10 babies are ****ed off about that.

I'm going to have to start rating your jokes. That one was a solid 7.5 . Good job!

We both use the diminutive on Usenet. (Leonard) drops me to 442 which was an
Olds muscle car. Sounds about right ;-)

That is one end of the spectrum At the other end is a Toronto couple who
went to great lengths to conceal the gender of their child. They named
the kid Storm.

Yeah, I did it the wrong way around. Leo's short for Leonard, but it
doesn't mean little Leo. Maybe it would be Leonello, I don't know.

Leocito grew to manhood and became Don Leonardo de Nevada or Don Leo for
short. I thought you knew that. Begrudgingly, I "may" have used
diminutive improperly.

Family bragging rights:
My brother was part of a small team of scientists that won a Nobel prize
about 10 years ago or so. I guess the team leader was awarded it but
they all traveled to where ever in Europe for the awards ceremony.

It was back when the "mad cow disease" was a big issue.

I suspect Graham was referring to adjective Sheila.
Aren't all women in Australia referred to as a Sheila?
At least that's what we westerners have been told.

Funny you mention that. I opened a box of very old photos and found my
8th grade class picture. The folder was signed by some of my
classmates, including Sheila. Only one I can recall. Had she not
signed the folder I'd not have recalled her either.

Yes, but I hardly ever hear it used. What's very Australian and used
all the time is "mate" and "No worries". Some men add "mate" to every
second sentence they say to me.

I'm glad vaping wasn't around when I quit, otherwise I'd now have been
