We made midnight here in NY, barely. We each toasted in the new year
with a glass of Champagne.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

The neighbors' fireworks woke me up and I never did get properly
back to sleep.

It's sleeting now; I wish it had been doing so at midnight to discourage
them.

In the Netherlands, our neighbourhood would change into a war zone at
midnight, and we didn't even have a Chinese restaurant nearby. In
Australia private fireworks are not allowed.

So much for freedom.

I suppose they're not allowed in fire-prone areas in the U.S., either.
Michigan is pretty juicy, so the laws here are relatively liberal.

Australia can be a bit of a nanny state. On the other hand, hospitals
in the Netherlands would always report how many people lost fingers,
hands and eyes on New Year's Eve. I'm not sure what's better.

These days, Sinterklaas won't just kidnap your ass and take you back to Spain - he'll kill you.

Yes, terrible. As if these old people really needed to see
Sinterklaas, no matter how demented they were. This was in Belgium by
the way, not in the Netherlands.

Well Sinterklaas doesn't travel solo. He has an entourage of 6 to 8 white fellas dressed up as black fellas. These Black Pete's job is to act silly and keep the crowd laughing - in addition to their spreading a deadly virus activities. The papers call Sinterklaas and the black-white guys a "troupe." I suppose it's a accurate description but it leaves out a lot. The whole story is so much more.

And indeed, I have not. I have just presented the facts, and have not given an opinion on anything. I got my opinion on Zwarte Piet, I'm just not saying it.

Zwarte pieten are very popular with the children, because they hand
out the candy. In the Netherlands, there's a lot of discussion about
the "black face" aspect of the tradition, especially among woke
people. In Belgium, they shrug that off and let their children have
fun. The little differences...

Wanna bet? Next New Year's Eve, tiptoe very quietly into your kitchen
right after midnight and open your fridge.

Bring the wife with you too. Otherwise, she'll never believe what you
tell her. :-D

On a more serious note: Did you hear that the woman you've been

Well, you have almost a year to work on her with that. heheh

Perhaps I can find a preview of what you'll see to help convince her to
agree.

I'll have to walk back into the bedroom to Google it unless maybe Cindy
will look it up for me. lol

I did notice that on the news last night. Interestingly, I do remember
her saying sometime in the past year that she wouldn't take that job
again. Guess it was fake news.

Imo, it's high time we should stop letting other people's
great-grandparents run our countries and make our laws. They are all old
and set in their ways and with old values.
