We buy a round loaf of bread, yielding slices of various sizes. Four strips of bacon on a sandwich made from the largest slices just isn't right. I'll usually choose a pair of somewhat smaller slices. Cindy Hamilton |

Take a bite of your own instead. Cindy Hamilton |

I've a friend who flies for United. He often does Tokyo trips, and he waxes ecstatic about the BLT that's served in the coffee shop of one of their layover hotels. When I asked what was special about it, he said, "I've tried to figure it out, but I dunno, it's just PERFECT!"... Anyways, this is something that I'd think was exclusive to the US, "interesting"... -- Best Greg |

Maybe we can guess what makes them so tasty. |

Probably Kewpie mayo and that Japanese bread that the Serious Eats guy waxes poetic over. > Anyways, this is something that I'd think was exclusive to the US, "interesting"... If the layover hotel is an American chain like Hilton... Cindy Hamilton |

For me a snack is an apple or a handful of nuts. A BLT is a meal, given the amount of effort required to make one. Cindy Hamilton |

I've never heard of a Japan BLT. My guess is that it's served mostly to tourists in hotel chains. The Japanese mayo isn't spicy - just tasty. Japanese bread isn't very tasty - it's pretty neutral, kind of boring, stuff. The most iconic sandwich in Japan is katsu sando - a pork cutlet sandwich. The Japanese sando would be pretty ordinary without Japan mayo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjhaOzWNfVA |
