Muffin or muffins?

I can't imagine you could get a useful amount of bacon onto
a single English muffin.

Although so much of it is about proportion. We buy a round loaf
of bread, yielding slices of various sizes. Four strips of bacon on
a sandwich made from the largest slices just isn't right. I'll usually
choose a pair of somewhat smaller slices.

I don't care if there's lettuce and/or bread involved, bacon and
tomato are spectacular together.

I don't agree with everything he says, but he certainly has put a lot
of thought into his BLT.

I could take one bite of his sandwich, then vomit on him. Slathering mayo
on a BLT merits that response.

Nearly everybody puts mayo on a BLT. You are definitely in the minority
on that one.

You don't have to take a bite of his sandwich. Take a bite of your own instead.

I've a friend who flies for United. He often does Tokyo trips, and he waxes ecstatic about the BLT that's served in the coffee shop of one of their layover hotels. When I asked what was special about it, he said, "I've tried to figure it out, but I dunno, it's just PERFECT!"...

Anyways, this is something that I'd think was exclusive to the US, "interesting"...

Ask him next time what type of bread they are served on and what is exactly, besides
BLT, they add to the sandwiches. Maybe we can guess what makes them so tasty.

well I skimmed it - there wasn't really anything new to learn other than
this guy has little ability to convince me that his opinions matter

I get the feeling you like the coarse salt on the tomatoes - for me the
bacon provides plenty of salt for this sandwich

and shredded lettuce? that shit is annoying!

frying the bread in bacon grease is overkill

That's the way I fix mine too, but I'd like to know what's done to the one's in Tokyo
that makes them memorable.

Probably Kewpie mayo and that Japanese bread that the Serious Eats guy waxes
poetic over.

If the layover hotel is an American chain like Hilton...

I find bacon isn't as salty as it used to be. Probably the demonization
of salt. The bread, tomatoes, and lettuce need a little help, so I salt
the tomatoes.

> and shredded lettuce? that shit is annoying!

Yep. I use a leaf of romaine.

You bet. I said I didn't agree with everything he said.

Ah. For me a snack is an apple or a handful of nuts. A BLT is a meal,
given the amount of effort required to make one.

I've never heard of a Japan BLT. My guess is that it's served mostly to tourists in hotel chains. The Japanese mayo isn't spicy - just tasty. Japanese bread isn't very tasty - it's pretty neutral, kind of boring, stuff. The most iconic sandwich in Japan is katsu sando - a pork cutlet sandwich. The Japanese sando would be pretty ordinary without Japan mayo.
