Default Thunderbird is busy downloading 46,940 messages

You'd think with that many messages, I'd know everything there was to
know about cooking.

It was for this reason that I abandoned Thunderbird.

Thunderbird gives one the option of only downloading the last selected
number of messages, while marking the older ones 'read.'

46,920 of them are KOOKthe's rantings, which just leaves people
stupider for having read them.

You only have to let it do that once. In Agent, at least, you can tell
it to only download 50 sample messages or something like that.

The last time I used a newsreader was many, many beers ago, on a Win98
machine. I need to learn my way around again. I've got the Win7 SSD
back in my computer, and I need to get the other one back out and put
the Linux disk in that one.

A friend of mine (© Dave Smith) is constantly horsing around with his
computer. Windows this, Windows that, Linux, etc. Always asking me how
to do something or undo something. But he doesn't really use his
computer, except for a bit of browsing and emailing. I think it's a
form of therapy.

Thunderbird does that too. Only thing is, you actually have to look at
the box on the screen and read it. Set it for any number you want and
any time it exceeds that number it asks if you want them all.

Right. Shouldn't be a big problem then. If dsi1 stopped using
Thunderbird because of this "problem", he'll always have a problem.

You whiny boy. I used Thunderbird when it first came out. I was an expert user. Have you even used it at all? In the end, I grew tired of applying fixes to get it to load up quickly. Feel free to use it all yoose like.

Your problem of downloading a gazillion newsgroup messages with
Thunderbird. Your problem of growing tired because you have to apply
so many fixes to get it to load quickly. Your often mentioned problem
of your Windows computer getting slower and slower. Etc. I must have a
really special computer, that doesn't have all these problems. Lucky
me!

I ask for the second time. Have you ever used Thunderbird? What are you using to read these newsgroups? I can optimize Windows computers easily. That was my specialty. I don't do that anymore because I don't have any Windows computers. Please continue to whine about me. It makes me feel so special. Don't expect me to switch back to T-bird because yoose feels threatened about it.

Thunderbird is a shit new reader but naturally your reason for not
using it is incorrect and moronic.

Classic dsi1 who Knows NOTHING about How Shit Works. But is proud to
dish it out with glee, arrogance, and complete ignorance.

You really have no clue how anything computer related works, David.

Well, True the first part anyways.

But since you are the most respected in this group on cooking outside on
the grill, what do you suggest for -20C -4F ? I think butane is out of
the question.

On the other hand, people are going nuts. I'm not even sure if that is
allowed during the curfew.

I used to use thunderbird but dropped it in favor of emacs|gnus. I spend
ninety percent of my time in linux cli. If thunderbird had a command
line option, I'd likely still use it.

I'd probably use Thunderbird if it supported smoke signals.
