Default Dinner tonight

Sorry to interrupt the flame fest with on topic!

A very nice simple one. I had a hankering for Spagetti and was out of
my own sauce, so made more.

Colavita boxes. The product it good, opening them is not good. I
won't be getting them again due to that but have the rest of a bulk
Amazon load to use up. Use any canned diced or minced tomatoes in
their place.

4 boxes Colavita tomatos (13oz each)
1 medium onion, chopped
5 cloves garlic (2 were very small, call it a bit over 1 TB)
2 TB Italian herb mix (your standard ones)

Simmer 40 minutes or so to blend. Serve on hot Spagetti.

Simple and works well. 6 generous serving of sauce. Takes 5 minutes of
your time if you can open the $^&* boxes or to use kitchen shears like
I did. ;-)

Oh, made bread to go with it. A nice little 2lb version. Brie heavy
with lots of chives. Fairly 'heavy' for a white bread as it got 5oz
brie in there.

LOL, not a wine drinker. I do like my miller lite, even though it's
not any sort of fancy brew.

Anyway, tonight is more normal for us. Curried Black eyed peas with
rice (not vegetarian, has diced cured pork) served with steamed mustard
greens. A side of stir fried mushrooms (Enoki and oyster) with bell
peppers and red onion and toasted slices of a brie bread I made Sunday.
Babying my teeth today after a 3 hour root canal job this morning. (Fun
it was not!)

I've actually *drank* Crystal Palace, mixed of course. It's no worse
than other cheap vodka, but cheap vodka is all kind of icky. Pricey
vodka is, IMO, a waste of money. You want to go with SKYY, Finlandia or
Svedka, or other mid-priced vodkas, and yeah, buy them in magnums
(1.75L) bottles. At the beginning of the pandemic, when it was thought
that the virus was transmitted by touching surfaces, I bought Everclear
and mixed it with 40 volume (12%) hydrogen peroxide to use as a surface
disinfectant, and I have most of the Everclear left. It's actually
pretty clean tasting, which was surprising.

I only mix vodka with freshly squeezed citrus juice, and in the case of
lemon or lime, some simple syrup. With grapefruit juice, I use
sucralose to sweeten it. It's also good with cranberry juice cocktail,
but only mixed very light in alcohol. The lime version is nice with an
addition of just a little pure agave tequila. I don't mix drinks over
12-15% ABV. The only thing stronger I'll touch are liqueurs like
Chambord in tiny sips. Chambord is spectacular for flavoring whipped
cream or buttercream frostings.

That's worth repeating. Chambord is spectacular for flavoring whipped

typically use vanilla extract.

Australians drink bad beer too. Fosters is bad beer. The USA also
makes the best beers, and that certainly didn't used to be the case.
The New England style hazy/juicy pale ales are being brewed in other
countries as far away as Uruguay, with American bred hops varietals.

The point that I was making is that American swill beers like Bud Light,
Coors Light and Miller Lite are overpriced. Miller also makes
Milwaukee's Best Light. It is similar to Miller Lite, but it's cheap.
I used to drink American swill because I am frugal, and I used to drink
a lot more beer than I do these days. I'm neither ashamed nor proud of
my addiction to alcohol, but because of it, I know a lot about beer.

I've struggled with alcohol use disorder for years, and will probably
never come to a perfect peace with it. We're all imperfect. I
obviously don't get trashed. If I did, you all would know it because
I'd be doing the typing version of slurring my words. Several years
ago, I started drinking beer *on the rocks*. It dilutes the beer a bit,
which is good from the standpoint of reducing dehydration, and American
beers, even the better ones, tend to be overly carbonated anyway.

You are stuck in in SE Asian/Japanese cooking thing. That's fine. Hope

I too went to the dentist this morning. 3 hours sounds like a walk in the park. I went in at 8:30 and got out after 1:00. Perhaps I got a slow dentist..
Yesterday, my butane burner sprung a leak. It seems that the canister should be removed from the burner because it'll leak if the can rests on the nozzle when it's stored. There was liquid butane in the carrying case. It took several hours to get the smell out of our bedroom. Good thing it didn't happen when we were sleeping.

I once went for an root canal on a molar and endure close to 2 hours of
having my mouth wide open and gagging on the dental dame before he noted
that the tooth was cracked, so he did not want to complete it, said it
would have to come out. I was hoping he could take it out right there
because I was already seriously frozen. Nope... had to go to a dental
surgeon for that.

The next time I went for a root canal I opted for getting sedated.
Piece of cake. I just had to go in a little early, At some point I felt
a bit of pain but I really didn't care. Next thing I knew she was done.
I felt like the procedure had taken 10-15 minutes but my wife was
waiting for me in the waiting room and she said I had been in there for
2-1/2 hours.

My dentist recently removed a molar. There was some concern about breaking the tooth and having to remove it in pieces. Luckily, it came out in piece.. He called it a "simple extraction." Today, he ripped off a cap and is going to replace it with a bridge. He said the previous work was sloppy. There was a poorly installed post in my jaw and the cap was glued on with a whole bunch of filler material. My wife thinks that my previous dentist was an alcoholic and would work in a cloudy haze. He died a few years ago and I won't speak ill of the dead so I'll just say that he was a pretty fun guy.

I too went to the dentist this morning. 3 hours sounds like a walk in the
park. I went in at 8:30 and got out after 1:00. Perhaps I got a slow
dentist.
Yesterday, my butane burner sprung a leak. It seems that the canister should
be removed from the burner because it'll leak if the can rests on the nozzle
when it's stored. There was liquid butane in the carrying case. It took
several hours to get the smell out of our bedroom. Good thing it didn't
happen when we were sleeping.

Americans are beer snobs. Some Americans prefer a little less body
in their beverages.

Sure, the market for both is dominated by weak, pale beverages. But
there are plenty of microbrews and cafes that afford a robust drinking
experience.

I know the US must have great beer and great coffee with all those
ethnicities, but if Bryan adds a sweetener to his wine, I can't take
his opinion about beer or coffee seriously. It's a bit like
Australians who think they know anything about coffee, because they
drink vanilla flavoured instant coffee. It's a different world.

Regarding my teeth, the future is uncertain. My mouth is drying out for some reason. This produces tooth decay. That's so strange. Hopefully, things will go back to normal soon.

My little burner would be the only burner I could use with a moka pot. It comes in a nice carrying case and you should not keep the butane can in the stove when storing it in the case. My theory is that it's possible to leak liquid butane if the can is not kept upright. I will investigate. Buying only non-exploding CRV cans is probably a good idea too.

Canadians are notorious for disparaging American beer. It is an old
habit that dates back decades when Canadian beer was better than
American beer, which was generally scorned for being lower in alcohol
and less flavour.. canoe beer. These days the big breweries' products
are no better than the American stuff, and the best selling brands
include Bud Lite, Coors Lite and their ilk. Fortunately, craft
breweries are popping up all over and they sell some really nice beers.

Over the past decade or two, I haven't drunk much beer at all, and I've
lost my taste for the really good ones. Labatt's Blue Light is good enough,
and one bottle can make me loopy.

13 oz is 384 ml, which is worth bothering with to me. A standard
Australian can is 375 ml, which is already bigger than the 333 ml I
was used to.

For coffee it's a bit much, but you're very white and Anglo, so you
probably drink strong tea and call it coffee.

I'm always curious why people refer to weak coffee as strong tea. They
taste nothing alike.

Of course to really test your assertion, you'd have to drink coffee that one
of us made. If you're ever in Ann Arbor, Michigan, give me a call and I'll
make you a cup.

I drink two 591-ml cups of coffee every morning. You might think it's
weak. Hard to say. The cumulative effect is pretty good.

I think there's a shared benchmark in Italian(esque) coffee shops.
Their coffees tend to be good, also in tea country Australia, probably
also in the US. I'd call their espressos strong. You'd never drink
over a litre of that, would you?

I consider the possibility of explosion to be a feature rather than a bug.

But I wouldn't store butane in my bedroom. Then again, I live in a house
with outbuildings, not an apartment.

No problem. The world would be boring if we all liked the same things.

Tonight was probably close to Italian/American with a basic pizza
(tomato sauced) and Mozz. To it was added black olives, onions, bell
pepper and 'spinach leaves' for lack of a better name (tastes just like
normal American stuff, just shaped different).

This one took 3 hours. Seriously unfun. The dentist seemed competent,
but my tooth had ?3? canals to dig out so that all took a bit.

He didn't mean to say that root canal work is good in small doses,
