Did they say they like you or you just assume they do because they called
you and said to keep your butt at home for a few days?

No work, no pay.

Many people worked a short week in the snow areas. The kids parents
probably stayed home because of the ice.

Oh wait, you just like to pick on John.

That makes it sound like John is not so much a nurse as he is a standby
baby sitter.

An assumption based on what? The kid may have special needs that a
typical babysitter cannot do. There are many families like that where
the parents had to go through special training too.

Yep! It's called a Mickey Button, feeding tube in the belly. They are simple enough, but it definitely a thing a nurse knows how to do.

Stretching back to my nurses aide days. Lady with major stroke lost
ability to swallow. May have had other issues. Feeding tube. Doesn't
require a 4 year degree to use but those with them normally have other
needs that may need one.
