What started out as a drive-by wisecrack by me has now turned serious. I was ripped off in the Eighties. I bought some fraud knives at Macy´s that are spelled "J. A. Henckels". Either that or you can´t spell the name of the knives that you´re referencing. I´m betting on you and am set to trash my fake set of cutlery. I suppose my Rollex watch will be next. Thanks, Dave! |

Henkels knives are no longer of the same high quality that they once were. For several years now they are no longer fully forged, instead they are now of three separate stamped parts that are welded together (they gave the process a fancy schmancy sounding name: "Sintered"). They are far cheaper to manufacture, with the result being low quality Toys R Us cutlery. The original hand wrought process required a lot more skill and time, producing a stronger well balanced knife. https://patents.google.com/patent/US5131152A/en |

Sintering is quite a different process, as you should know. <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sintering> Cindy Hamilton |

Zwilling J.A. Hencles knives are made in Germany and maintain the same standards that made them famous. Then there is the J.J. Henkles International which are made in China and in Spain. They are the budget version. I have a set of Zwilling JA Henckels that I acquired over the years. I have had most of them for over 30 years. I have had two of them replaced under warranty. The first was a bread knife that god pushed off the kitchen counter and landed handle first on our newly laid ceramic tile floor. It hit the tile and the blade snapped in half. I took it back to the store where I had bought it at least 5 years earlier and they cave me a replacement. The other was the large chef's knife. The rivets holding the handle to the blade rotted away, apparently as a result of the dishwasher. I had contacted the Canadian distributor and they said to send it to them and they would see if it could be repaired. About two weeks late they sent me a replacement. |
