It would have to be different from my Thunderbird. It is easy enough to
click on Reply instead of Follow Up, especially since it upgraded and
did not allow that menu line to be altered. If I click on Follow Up it
posts to the news group listed. If I click on Reply it is addressed to
the person and then there is an option to enter the news group. You
can't send to both accidentally. It takes too much effort to do that.

The only way I can see to both post *and* send it as an email to an
individual is what Ed said. You'd have to click the down arrow next to
the Followup button and select Reply All. If you just click the
Followup button it auto-fills the newsgroup and doesn't also send email.
