Where do you live that you don't pay for exactly the amount you use?
I'm billed by volume for water and sewage treatment. The latter
costs more than the former.

And as for your $1 loaf of bread in your previous post: that's shitty
bread. I'd rather pay $7 and get a good loaf of bread.

Since many people in our community own shares in WM, either directly or
through a mutual fund, insurance policies, etc., how is WM not also a
"local business"?

I can see using a dishwasher for many people but with just me here, I
hand wash dishes twice a day. Takes about 5 minutes each time. Once
rinsed, they go on a wooden dish rack to dry.

Did the same all the years my daughter lived with me too.

My morning routine (winter)... get out of nice warm bed and put on
sweatshirt, then turn on the heat for about 15 minutes. All is good.

Perhaps you should open your windows and get fresh air once in awhile?

Note: As I go inside and out often, it's the difference that determines
my house settings.

I would be too hot with 71F during the winter and I would freeze to
death in the summer months at 71F.

My favorite inside summer temp is about 78F with fan.
Favorite inside winter temp is no more than 68F and even colder at night
when I sleep under a nice warm pile of blankets.

I agree completely with you. You're talking practical.
No need to "sanitize" stupid dishes. Just wash and rinse and let dry. No
worries.

My hand washed dishes come out very clean and are put on a wooden rack
to dry. No electricity used and my hand washing definitely uses less
water than my dishwasher.

I use my dishwasher now to store pots and lids.

Did you ever consider the alternative, Cindy?
If a dishwasher has the ability to dull a sharp knife,
it could also sharpen a dull knife. Same process.

I like to get in the shower fully clothed. Turn around several times
then slowly strip and hang up clothes to dry. Works pretty darn good.

We do, when the weather is right. Not too cold, not too hot, not too humid,
and nobody in the neighborhood burning anything. Yesterday they did
a controlled burn in the nearby park and we had to keep our windows shut
even though it was a very nice day.

Everybody's different. Although why 71 F would be too hot in the winter
_and_ too cold in the summer makes not a bit of sense to me. We pick
a comfortable temperature and stick with it.

Using just an ounce of brains, I could see it is the differences between
the outside and inside temperatures that are the issue.

Most people are comfortable in the 70(21C) degree range. It get hot
here in summer and I'm comfortable at 77 during the day, 73 when I go to
bed.

In winter I turn on heat if it drops below 68

Also depends on what you are used to. The locals are comfy working
outdoors at 95 when I hide inside by the AC. They bundle up at 45 in
winter and I will put on a light jacket but still wear shorts.

But you aren't the only person the dishwasher company is serving. The
sanitize setting can be used for baby bottles, canning jars, plates
and utensils used by a sick person

Plus Walmart also employs many local people, several of our neighbors
have very good jobs at Walmart. We shop at the nearest Walmart even
though it's a 15 mile trip one way, however there are other stores
near there that we shop on the same trip, it's a win win. And these
days we do a lot of shopping on line, more convenient and lower
prices. For most shopping no store beats Amazon. Mainly we buy our
fresh meat and produce at the Tops Market in town, they have excellent
quality and I much prefer choosing my own meats and produce. For
canned and packaged goods Amazon has the best prices, and every thing
for pets no one beats Chewy. Occasionally I'll buy an item from the
Tops weekly circular but has to be at a good price, Yesterday 4 lbs of
Domino sugar was $2.49 and we needed sugar so I bought it, will
probably last us five years, we use very little, I'll add a tsp to my
homemade salad dressing to balance the vinegar. We don't like bottled
salad dressing, too much sugar and salt and other chems,
generally not very good, plus it's expensive, mostly the high price is
for the bottle. I can mix up a pint of Italian style salad dressing
in under 3 minutes. Sometimes rather than vinegar I'll use the juice
of a whole fresh lemon. We buy lemons by the 2 lb bag, after
squeezing for juice the rind goes in a tall glass and stays in the
fridge till after dinner when I make my Crystal Palace vodka and
Sprite. Later the rind goes out my window for a lucky doe. Deer love
citrus rinds and banana peels. Whatever fruit and veggie parings I
put out are gone by early morning. During winter I see their foot
prints in the snow. Other critters eat meat trimmings, possums and
skunks eat all the meat trimmings I put out. Meats always have too
much fat, the critters enjoy it more than our trash can does. Crows
love the fat too.

I love to use the dishwasher when I am making jam. I make sure
everything is sanitized whish is so important for putting things by.
Were I to use boiling water instead, I'd have to use at least 2 gals
of water plus energy to heat it. This way, I just include the jars and
rings while the rest of the dishes are running.

We only run the dishwasher when it is full, so not necessarily every
day. If I washed by hand, I'd be busy at least 3 times a day with it
or have a sink that was layered or overflowing with dirty dishes. And
don't even talk to me about pots and pans adding to the sink clutter.

My dishwasher is higher end and very efficient. I am thrilled with it.

It's actually ignorant to use a dishwasher on sanitize like an
autoclave unless each is immediately sealed like bandaids. No one's
dish cupboard is sanitary anyway, and I've never seen anyone gown up
in a hazmat suit to set their table.
Our dishes are sanitary anyway, we use a lot of paper plates, and
during the manufacturing process paper is sterilized. And some may
think it's wasteful but paper plates cost less than washing dishes, we
buy them in a carton of 1,000 costing less than $10... and after using
them they get reused to feed the cats... and then they go into the
recyclables bin. At one time I used to use sissors to cut paper
plates into bits and place them in our composter. We have two
composters, one is used mainly for the paper that's been through our
shredder. We bought a micro shredder from Amazon, works beautifully.
makes the tiniest bits and does up to 8 pages at a time.
The best shredder in the universe:

I have considerably more than an ounce of brains, and I don't see why
I should swelter at 78 in the summer and freeze at 68 in the winter.
The difference between outside and inside only affects my utility
bill, not the temperature at which I want to live.

We primarily use paper plates, very plain white, no designs, no
coating. We use them for everything not juicy that needs cutting with
a knife like a pork chop. Paper plates are fine for a sandwich, most
everyone who eats at fast food joints eats from paper/styrofoam.
For eating fresh fruit like apples, pears, oranges, I prefer a small
cutting board, I don't mind hand washing dishes for the two of us,
takes minutes, I'm faster. I dry with a clean dish towel and put
everything away immediately. We have a new top of the line Maytag
dishwasher, it gets used perhaps 4-5 times a year... mostly it stores
rinsed plastic freezer containers, Dishwashers remove that oily film
much better than hand washing. We're not sanitation freaks, we bathe
regularly but my wife likes to eat snacks in bed, no point arguing
about the toast crumbs any more than who gets to sleep on the wet
spot. Thank the heavens for the wet spot.

Good to see individual.net is still going strong.

Better if Agent lets the newserver use its own qualified
domain name -- because viewers here can filter for it.

Agent doesn't allow you to filter on news server, otherwise it would
be easy. Just block aioe and neodome. Now I can only block by name.

however other newsreaders do, such as mine. Agent should be able not to
insert 4ax.com for the post's domain name.

I don't know what that is. I don't see it. But I might switch to
Xnews. I've used it before.

I'd use a gmail address as a user name/email and post on Google Groups. If someone tries to use your user name, report it as abuse to Google. Well, okay then.

I think we view Google Groups differently.

We also have different views about computers and black/Asian folks too! Vast is the divide between us.

Google does not even pay attention to their own abuse of their own
employees...

RFC has a not atypical contingent of truly crazy posters, but those
are not the problem. I don't mind the lunatic fringe or the whacko
political agenda types, but some folks go to a LOT of trouble to drop
all these extraneous bullshit "guess who I am imitating today?" posts.
That is its own branch of WTF loon.

I have never seen a group on any community platform/forum even going
back to the early 80s, with as much nymshifting dreck as this one
always has. Facebook is a world unto itself, but I gave that up so
long ago, I have no idea what's there these days.

I keep imagining these schmucks as someone like Donald Trump in
tightie whities, sitting in a rumpled bed with a cell phone and a Big
Mac and/or maybe his dick in his hand...
