No idea what they do up in Canada, but employees from all over
regularly post on Reddit, and tho there are some complaints, the pay
and benefits and overall hours seem much better than other US big
stores and that pleases the employees.

I know that my local store has been open for over 25 years and there
are some employees there that I have seen grown old (I, of course,
have not aged a minute in those 25 years.) over all that time.

That's normal! There isn't a multi-national operating in Canada that
*doesn't* bring in management personnel from head office.

An article in the news last week said that Costco employees received
$16/hour to start and that most of them received $24.50/hour. Sounds
cedent to me.

I here the health and retirement bennies are decent, too.

The stock market has criticized the company at times in the past and
downgraded them, saying they could be more profitable offering fewer
employee perks.

I have used Delia's recipe for Pavlova for years, no muss, no fuss,
works wonderfully every time without fail.

I was at Costco with a greatgrandson who puked. Staff were extremely
kind and when all was cleaned up and I thanked the girl, in chatting
she told me it was a great place to work. At that time I was kind of
surprised because I had not heard that, but have many times since.

I'd like to find it. I looked for for about a year a bunch of years
ago and all I could find was a whole one, cut up into a "6 way cut"
(halved, then the hinds, breast/loin racks, and shoulders. But it
was unclear if it was actually mutton or just lamb.

I think I'd like the extra gamey taste.

Funny how that works, eh. The guys with the most perks really hate to
see other people getting something good. They don't even need to start

Her comments on making meringues in general are exactly right, no need
to add vinegar etc etc. She was also the first to advocate turning
the bowl upsidedown to check whether the whites were beaten enough,
over beating them is ruinous.

They look spectacular but are childsplay to make. Stressfree standby
for dinner parties, celebrations, buffet meals . You'll find Delia's
recipes online. I still use the famous trio DS recipe books which I
bought in the 1970's.

Delia's not dead of course but afaik she no longer cooks on UK TV
(where she became a national icon) Her modern day UK equivalent for
utterly foolproof recipes, is Mary Berry. MB is even older than Delia
:-)

AHA- another lesson learned. I am used to meringues in general, both
regular and Swiss, but hadn't the foggiest idea how or if a Pavlova
differed. I have seen them shaped, I have seen them decorated with
fruit and cut, but never knew those characteristics the prevented
shattering or a gooey mess.

That is a flavor characteristic that can, at times, make venison
beyond me.

Many peeps who dislike even young spring lamb, mention a gaminess to

The stock market is, to me, just a form a gambling. Where dividends
and slow, steady growth used to be goals, inflated pump and dump seems
to have more appeal now.

I am out of the demographic of the Elon Musk mentality investors. I am
sure my blood pressure meds help, too.

Mutual funds that track some index like the Dow or NASDAQ.
Over time their returns are pretty reliable.

Individual stocks have always been a form of gambling.

She is not just a bitch. She is a lying psycho. Check out the email I
got from her this morning calling me a liar for having said she had
emailed me. Since she is filtered on my newsreaders I can only tell
from the log is her post was filtered, and it is way too much hassle to
unsubscribe and then resubscribe without her filter.

The third one was hilarious because she is she screamed that I am a liar

I am curious about Pavlova. I have seen them made on TV shows but never
had one. My wife makes amazing meringues and I have suggested a few
times that she should consider doing a Pavlova instead. I have not been
able to convince her and it is not something to push because he is very
proud of her meringues.

I've been known to have a couple of books going simultaneously.

If I'm out and finish the book I'm reading, the next one is right there
waiting for me.

Tell that to my 1968 World Book Encyclopedia.

Different strokes. I re-read almost every book. Sometimes for
a really good new book, I turn from the last page to the first page and
re-read it immediately.

Unless you live in some third-world hellhole, you can load library
books onto an e-reader.

We voluntarily downsized our collection of books when we realized
we strongly prefer the e-reader. We're down to one 6' tall, 3' wide
bookcase.

Perhaps it was her newsreader. Sometimes, I send an email by mistake if
I'm mousing too fast or not paying proper attention. Most people do not
show a valid email address like Dave does.

I rarely re-read books. I am not saying never because there are several
that I have re-read. A few years ago I started reading some of the
classics studied in high school and university. When I read In the Skin
Of A Lion I finished the last page and went back and started it all over
again. I read The Book Thief three times in a month.

I rarely by books but am a regular at the library. I go in there at
least once a week and get an assortment of books to read. That has been
hard since the pandemic. I found it hard to order books online for
curbside pickup.

Despite an aversion to E-readers I broke down and bought one a couple
months ago. It was awhile before I got around to using it because I had
a stack of library books to read and then more became available as a
result of online reserves at the library. I finally got around to
using the E-reader a couple books. I love it. I finished a book a few
nights ago and downloaded another one that looked interesting. It
wasn't, so I "returned" it and downloaded something else that was really
interesting. It turned out to be a quick read and when I finished that
one I downloaded a similar book that had been suggested.

I had been a skeptic but I am really enjoying my E-reader.

She called me a liar for posting that she had emailed me. I had not
seen it in the group because I have filtered her for years but I got it
in my mail box. I got three emails from her in two days and it was the
third one where she said she had never ever emailed me.

I viewed the message source and Her is a cut and paste from the one she
denied sending. Since he is in the filter I don't have the one that came
to the group but I presume that it reads the same in case anyone cares
to check and see who the liar is.
