It's certainly not optical drives and magnetic drives or any mechanical drives. A short while ago, optical drives were thought to be a good choice for long term storage. I got a bunch of CDs and DVDs in folders. My guess is that most of the disks are unreadable now. That don't matter much since I don't have any optical drives anyway. |

Open email, texts or other secure data and save it to the cloud. That's good. Going with those update commands from your provider make that easy.. The state colleges and the multi-national corporations passed the federal government years ago in high tech, BTW. |

I had to look that one up since I don't know nothing about no Apple. Windows has something similar with System Restore although that one just reverts your machine to the point in time that you take a "snapshot" of the system. It does not actively back up your drive. Using an external drive is a good move. Most people using System Restore will use their single internal drive. I don't have any options like that. I can live with that. ![]() |

I can live with that. ![]() When one's internal drive fails, System Restore won´t be of much use to them. The odds of two drives failing at once are slim. With Time Machine, I can go back a year or two to retrieve old single files at the time I choose. I can, but I´ve never had the need. System Restore on a external drive is a far better option for everybody using Windows, if that option is available to them. External drives are real cheap now. If you want lightning in a box, replace your internal HDD with a SSD. I don´t know how that works in the Windows world. |

You're certainly right about using an external drive. OTOH, one day you'll end up with a computer that has no USB port to connect to. My son's latest computer has two drives. They are both solid state drives but one's faster than the other. I don't don't know how that works in the Window's world either. For anything I want to save on my computer, I got a 64 GB Micro SD card. It's in a internal slot but it's seen as an external drive. It probably cost around $20. |
