I watch enough Jeopardy to know that I am better than a lot of
Americans at identifying states and their capitals. Cripes, there is 50
of them. At least they have keep the same names for a long time, unlike
the countries in Africa.

Given a map of Eurasia and all the current borders, I wonder how well we all
would do, without googling in advance, of course?

A fact is something that can be proven. Have you ever encountered one?

I'd find Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar etc. hard to get exactly right.

I doubt I'd score better than 50%.

I recently familiarized myself with Ukraine and environs, because we
binge-watched Chernobyl on HBOmax.

Sorry Leo, I keep forgetting that you're fact intolerant and would
rather listen to your Führer. And then you tell us that we should
learn from history.

Yes, who's going to tell Guatemala from Nicaragua? Or Uruguay from
Paraguay? Paraguay's smaller, I know that.

Fascinating, deeply creepy, and compelling. I was sorry when we got
to the end.

We watched it over the course of two afternoons, making sure to watch
something lighter in the evening.

I did well in 6th grade geography but not so sure now. I know some
parts of Asia would stumble me. No need to Google them though, I do
have a globe in the living room.

My two maps are old ones and both made by Rand McNally.
The globe is from 1965 or so (no date on it).

The wall map is from the mid-1980s (also no date on it)
It measures 30" high and 48" wide. On the wall above my desk.
I might replace that one with a current one. I'd like that change.

I worked a compressed work week with three day weekends almost every
week. If there was a statutory holiday it would be a three day weekend.
We frequently switched between Mondays and Fridays off, so if I had the
Friday and Monday as scheduled days off and there was a a stat holiday
I would get five days off, so it was like being on vacation for a week.
Holidays could be extended by choosing the right weeks to take off.

Probably true eventually. The Chinese are a very patient society. Slow
