Default My D: drive is SAFE! I just can't say it at home on my XP PC.

So I came home and retrieved 3 16GB memory USB sticks to copy it all to so I could have a back up copy

You are too dumb to make your own backups?Â* BTW, "expert", your USB
sticks are one of the worst media to use for backup.

A couple months ago I got a 2 T external hard drive for under $90. It is
a breeze to use.

I had bought a new computer and was planning on setting up the second
one and then shuffling back and forth with USB sticks to copy al the
data files on the old and uploading it to the new one. My son suggested
the external drive. I plugged it into the old one and it automatically
copied everything. I then plugged it into the new one and it
automatically uploaded everything.

If John's XP box is 32-bit, it can't "see" more than 4 gigabytes. Hence partitioning
it into multiple virtual drives.

Not overkill. If you are smart, you will make and keep backups from
several dates, in case a file has gotten corrupted or gone missing
without you knowing it.

That has been my practice for years, and it saved me recently, when a
bunch of pics in one folder disappeared.

Not at all overkill. Computer drives are getting bigger and bigger. My
new computer has a 465 Gig drive. I also have a lap top. 2T backups
allow you to save data from several computers. Better toomuch space on
a backup than not enough

Your local "Computer Shop" isn't going to do anything that might disrupt
your paying them. Maybe you can find an external drive on Craigslist
since you're so very fond of it.

Overkill? I have an external 6 TB hard drive and a second identical

And he depends on free neighbourhood Internet, only available in his

Same here. I run an old fashioned BBS (shenks.dyndns.org, port 24
Telnet). Yes, they still exist! Anyways, I have multiple 16Gig
backups.

I used a CAT5 cable and it was fast and easy.

A RAID is the best if you don't like cloud backups.Â* A bad drive can be
hot-swapped and you're good as new.Â* My cloud server is my office server
that is 18 miles away and Carbonite as an additional layer.

Three is better.Â* You'll need an external box and a RAID controller.

Good one. Many people these days like to save movies and youtube videos.
I don't bother.

As far as using dialup, just takes longer but you don't sit there
staring at the screen waiting. Good time to go off and do other chores.
I was fine with that.

I have high speed now but I still don't waste my time with videos.

Yes. Currently free internet at home and weather doesn't affect it. Are

Yes, but it would depend which half of the house. And can I still
download unlimited amounts of GBs per month? And no outages, please. I
need it for work.

>My internet only works on one side of the place. Same as your cell phone.

I only use our cell phone when some stubborn company insists on
sending me a security code that I have to enter on their website
before I can continue.

Yes, it would be hard to find many Lawrence Welk videos online. Just
stick to Fox.

That's because your computer is still from the last century. Windows
95, wasn't it? Go buy a new computer, you insufferable tightwad.

That is helpful, unfortunately it's beneath Gary to view videos from a
computer.

I find that it's way too easy to find those pesky Welk videos. This guy has obviously been toking back stage. Don't let the accordion fool you. Those slackers mostly learn to play the accordion so people won't suspect they're big potheads.

Troll boy. Windows98. still ancient and mostly worthless for internet now.

Look at my headers here. Using Win7 for this group. The Thunderbird
version is old but it works so I haven't bothered to upgrade.
"If it ain't broke..."

My newest computer uses Win10 but I don't use it to post here.

My dad loved those shows in the 1960's. Way too odd and even creepy to me.

For *good* accordion music, try a Cajun party music lp or cd.
Those kids do it right.
