And ... "a dog's sense of smell is 10,000 to 100,000 times more sensitive than human senses, according to James Walker, former director of the Sensory Research Institute at Florida State University"

That' means that dogs can smell differences between a human man and woman.

Enduring friendships. I am still close to some of those school chums,
one of whom I met in first grade.

Socialization is prime even younger than that, too, I have come to
believe.

When I had my kids in ancient times, I was able to stay home with
them, thinking this was the very best way to raise kids. After seeing
how wonderful some day care and nursery centers are by watching my
younger nieces and nephews thrive in them, I have changed my mind and
hope that quality early age development places are accessible to all.
I also know that is very pricey and prone to insanity at any
governmental level.

>Besides, if not for the schoolyard, where would kids get sex education?

You betcha. Lunchroom, too, just so we talk about food.

Well, without seeing that as an actual result of any writings to which
you might be referring, maybe.

Since pheromones and hormones are heavily involved with both physical
males and females, why would that be any sort of finding at
all...especially problematic as some people are incorrectly assigned
gender at birth or have complicated gender biology.

Dogs can, among other things, also be trained to smell fluctuations
in blood glucose levels, oncoming seizures, some cancers.

Yay, dogs!

Depends on where they go. My wife was home with the kids and they both
(now 52 & 50) say it was the best way to grow up. They liked coming
home from school and mom being there.

I'm sure some are good, others little more than a warehouse. Too many
factors to say one way fits every circumstance

My job was to take the kids out for a while after dinner, be it to the
playground, an ice cream, or just pick up something at the store.

I'd do it again the same way. Perfect? Of course not.

I wouldn't put it past a bloodhound regarding these substances just mentioned, though.

I wonder if rodents have an even sharper sense of smell.

A cat's sense of smell is twice that of a dog, hearing and sight as
well. People have tried to train cats to be used like blood hounds,
however it's impossible to teach cats to obey. No one needs to teach
cats to hunt.

That is a hormone. You gonna list all of them, or what?

For what reason? Dogs are trained for specific tasks, some scent, some
work. What are you talking about?

Wrong again, ****wit, a cat has something like 50 million to 80 million
odor-sensitive olfactory receptor cells in its nose, but a dog
(depending on breed, with the bloodhound as champ) has a whopping 200
million to 300 million.

I think it's a Good Idea for future Zoom occasions, especially those
that involve food.

The man I work for is all for virtual meetings and even simple telephone
conference calls as opposed to everyone gathering in a conference room.
The company is based just outside of NYC and he and his family lived
in CT. A bit of a commute but not unusual.

Now he "telecommutes". Both his chidlren recently graduated from
Clemson University and on visits he and his wife fell in love with SC.
He thought about Charleston but it's very expensive. Someone said "Take
a look at Beaufort." They did. They literally bought a house down here
then he told his boss hey, I'm moving! Everyone is working remotely due
to Covid-19 anyway, what does it matter if I'm in in CT, NY or SC?
Answer: it doesn't. So he opened an office down here and everything is
done remotely. The weekly staff meeting no longer takes 2 hours. 30
minutes, tops, and everyone gets back to work. Downside: only virtual
doughnuts.

Well there you have it, another Sheldon factoid, and it is completely
wrong. Dogs have twice as many olafactory receptors as cats.

And a wet dog can smell pretty bad.

These days everyone is scattered world wide for various reasons. It's
an excellent idea.
My MIL has been isolated in a Senior Center for the last year. Once a
week a nurse brings in a computer and the whole family gathers on Zoom
to visit with her.
