My woodturning club arranged a special demo via Zoom today. A well-known
(to us) turner in Ireland gave us a 2 hour live demonstration of the
techniques he employs as a professional. He turned a replica of a bowl
made by the Vikings, discovered a few years ago in Dublin.
A few weeks ago we had another demo from someone in Georgia (that State
of Jim Crow infamy). Also one from WA.
These professionals usually teach classes as an essential part of their
income, either in their own studios or when touring abroad. Because of
covid, Zoom classes have been a boon to them.

That's because you're a sock using a false email who started posting

(Of course you are a coward so we don't expect you to follow up...)

That sounds wonderful, Graham. It's nice to know artisans can keep on
doing their craft and selling at the same time with the use of technology.

And if the class catches on, there is the potential of a larger
audience draw.

It was a brilliant demo. More are planned with others. We usually share
with other clubs so the audience today was spread out over Alberta.

I emailed back. I think I found a picture of the original bowl.

The disadvantage being that there is only a certain amount of
equipment that can be carted around- very specific to the demo item, I
am guessing.

I had as much fun looking at the shop itself- all those wonderful
tools, as my husband moaned as we admired some of the close ups- "And
they would all have to be sharpened at some point!"

Lucas is really terrific in the video...timbre of voice, lighting,
shot angles, music track. It is very professional. If you want to have
a giggle, it appears the Viking bowl is THE most popular wood project
on youTube. Oh, man o man...click on a couple of them that show up as
suggestions on the Lucas page. Some great, some decent, but others are
howlingly and unintentionally funny.
