The best pozole I ever ate was goat's neck (bones 'n all) served with raw cabbage, raw peppers, raw lime, raw radishes, dried Mex oregano, guac, and corn tortilla chips. > I would skip the cheese. Squirt some lemon juice in to finish. I use canned > hominy, 28 ounces?, for the stew. The best is "Jaunita's" Rojo Pork (Rojo De Poerco) soup. They are usually known fer their No. 10 cans of pozole (hominy) and Menudo. Their pozole is NOT true nixtamalized (neez-tamal-ized,) maize, but it's close enough that it's on every Mex grocer's shelf (and quite a few U.S. grocer's shelve's). nb |

The Japanese restaurants we've been to, don't serve real wasabi. I make do with the fake, green coloured horse radish stuff from the supermarket. I love the stuff, but have had the real deal only a couple of times outside of Japan. Almost all of what shows up around here is fake. I wanted to try growing it, but it isn't easy to get seeds that are actually wasabi japonica and it is a true PITA to grow. |

It's going to be hard to find a lau lau, haupia, or lomi salmon, or anything served at Helena's on your rock. I won't be getting a loco moco or saimin. I can probably find kim chee fried rice in K-town on the mainland but not Hawaiian style kim chee fried rice. I won't be getting malasadas or sweet bread French toast. I can probably get some Portuguese sweet rolls but I don't care for those things. I can get Chinese food on the mainland but it'll be different kind of Chinese food, not local style. I won't be getting cake noodle at Chinese restaurants on the mainland. No plate lunches, no shoyu chicken, no shave ice, no Hawaiian garlic shrimp, no Okinawan sweet potato pie, no haupia pie, no poi anything - but I can live with that. I can't go to a McDonald's and get a Portuguese sausage, eggs, and rice, platter. I can't even get a fruit punch at a McDonald's. I might be able to get some chicken katsu or chicken katsu curry but maybe not. These things are easily available in my little town but not so easy in your big town. I cannot say how that has panned out. I think up in the PNW. It really needs flowing water and NJ surely has no climate that would be decent for it, but hey, I'll try to grow anything....I have a 5 foot plumeria in my kitchen that is from a stem cutting I got in Hilo and I have a few small Joshua trees from seed I got in CA there too. They all want to go outside, but they have to wait a bit.... |

I doubt the actual fish taste would change, but maybe the seasoning would be different. As for Korean cabbage fried rice, there is plenty of that here in the urban continental 48, and some may even offer the raw egg deal on top. |

As for Korean cabbage fried rice, there is plenty of that here in the urban continental 48, and some may even offer the raw egg deal on top. Butterfish in Hawaii is Black Cod. Black Cod might be known as Sablefish on the mainland but the fish has many different names. Black Cod is not Cod. Hawaiian Butterfish is not Cod or Escolar. I said Butterfish is different from Butterfish on the mainland because it's a different fish. I can't say what Butterfish is on the mainland. My guess is that you can get kim chee fried rice on the mainland in Korean restaurants. It will come with a fried egg on top. We can get Korean kim chee fried rice here too. We can also get Hawaiian style kim chee fried rice here too. It's lighter and simpler than the Korean version and may or may not be served with an egg on top. My wife and daughter had some raw fish for lunch. It had ahi, salmon, and hamachi. I had grilled rib eye stuffed with potatoes. https://photos.app.goo.gl/qX9JjQT6BxwAEgyw9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/kmtpAvaE7TVBv4z66 |
