with the absorbent thing in the bottom will get smelly, so I
microwave them before putting them in the garbage. That is all.

I usually rise them and wring them out.
We put bones and fat in the green bin. It is safe enough to leave it in
their during the winter but during the summer it can get pretty high. In
warmer weather we put them in a bag in the freezer until garbage day.

I put mine in the freezer. Screw that microwaving. Then last week
I put it all the trash can and forgot to wheel it out, so it's
pretty ripe this week. First time ever.

Our trash cans are in our unheated garage, during warm weather they
get scrubbed with soapy water about once a month... during winter our
garage is usually colder than our freezer. Coffee grounds, tea bags,
egg shells, and paper food wrapping get composted. Metals and
plastics go into the recycle bin. Everything edible goes outside for
the critters.

Anything that I know will get stinky in the garbage goes into double plastic
bags. Bags like that you receive from the Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Home
Depot, Kroger, etc. Those styrofoam trays and those absorbent meat pads
all go in the freezer in those plastic bags. They will stay there until either the
night before if I put out my garbage then or the morning of garbage collection.

Many, many years ago I rinsed one of those meat pads until the water ran clear.
Then it was tossed in the kitchen garbage can but when I came home from work
the next day it smelled like someone had died in my kitchen and was decomposing.
Since then all potentially smelly garbage goes into the plastic bags and then into
the freezer.

The City of Ann Arbor (in which I do not live) was toying with the idea
of collecting garbage every other week. That idea died on the vine.
Apparently people who pay around 16 mills of property tax think they
deserve weekly trash pickup.

We get recycling and green bin pickup every week, but trash is only
picked up every second week.

We get trash and recyclables pick up once a week, early Wed. AM, so we
need to put the bins to the curb on Tues eve. We need to pay a private
sanitation company for pick up, or one can schlep the trash to the
town dump, where the price is by weight.

to attract all those critters. I see plenty of wildlife in and around
my yard. They don't need my help finding food except in the winter.
Fresh water is *always* important. Not even the hummingbirds need my
help. I just saw one sipping from a pretty flowering plant:

I don't know what this plant is. Two of them just showed up, started
growing and blooming on each side of the patio back in 2008.

When I saw the hummingbird the feeder was 3 feet away, yet she sipped
from the flowers instead. I feed them because I love watching them, not
because they need my help finding food. Hummingbirds also eat flying
insects.

I definitely do not throw food scraps out into the yard. That's kind of
a trailer trash idea.
