A witless "analogy", Graham but of course we expect no better from you... Why don't you simply move to Cuba, everyone there is "equal" so that would be a "Paradise" for you... :-P -- Best Greg |

Another questionable claim, another investigation. Photos of her hauling a mattress out of the back of a pickup truck and into her house. But oh my aching back! LOL I love it when they get caught. > Some of the left leaning political parties up here are pushing for more > paid sick leave for workers to help the fight against Coid19. They say > workers can't afford to stay home if they don't have paid sick time, so > they will go to work sick and infect others.Â* Sounds good, but I have > known way too many people who abused sick time. I don't really know the solution to that last paragraph. Covid-19 has changed everything. Abuse of sick time has *always* been an issue. IMHO, some jobs already offered paid sick time, others didn't. Depends on the job, the number of hours worked, etc. Now there's a pandemic and people need to work and get paid. Some folks have had bills deferred or have been struggling to pay them due to meager savings and shutdown conditions. So they might need that boost if they're actually sick (there *are* other illnesses other than Covid-19). It's a conundrum because I can see both sides. How is the employer supposed to know if it's a legit "I'm sick call?" They can't know. So sure, some lazy folks would try to scam. But then they always did. I've worked with plenty of people like that. Phone call: "Susie was sneezing yesterday and I think I caught something from her." "Oh, okay. Susie's here and she's fine. She's allergic to pollen; she took a pill." "Oh." Yeah, oh. Don't think people don't notice. That's the Catch-22 in a nutshell to mandating paid sick leave right now. I don't have an answer. Jill |

I don't think anyone was saying penalize all claimaints. I know I wasn't saying that. I do think Covid-19 has created a very unusual situation where there might be more opportunity for unscrupulous people to at least try to scam the system. They've always been out there, just like the wealthy have always been dodging taxes. Jill |

Sadly, I had to buy myself a wheelchair recently. Sometimes I have to travel a distance and can no longer do that. Fortunately I was able to find an office job and will only need it sometimes currently. That per the spine doctor, will shift slowly over the years. I will have to spring for a walk-in tub before too much longer. These things are expensive and are all out of pocket and not tax deductable. I wish you contunued good health, Gary. You don't know what a blessing it is until it's gone. |

Actually, that's what I did with the second one. I had the final touches done to the wheelchair ramp we built Maria. Cost was just shy of Don and my combined payment. All of my stimulus payments went out to local handymen/craftsmen except paid off Charlie's bills because his freelance work has been severely depressed during COVID and he has nothing to fall back on. Lets just let it ride that I always have some project or other going on. Now, nuff said and lets talk about something else? |

There are always pikers who will abuse benefits. They should not have to come in if they are legitimately sick. They cannot be expected to perform well. There is always the risk of them infecting others. One coworker was notorious for using up all his sick leave by the end of March. Then he would use his vacation time, and when that was used up he would take unpaid time off. Then when he had used up everything and could not afford anymore unpaid leave he would come to work sick. -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

I have to admit, folks I work around don't abuse it at all but the boss is very generous in leeway when out of sick leave. Steve's wife died of metastatic cancer Xmas timeframe, 2019. They listed him as 'working from home' for a long time (and he did work some). The rest of us took up the slack and were fine with the extra work. It was the right thing to do. |

I used to like walking but can do little now. Walk in tubs are nice if you really want a tub. I took the tub out and put in a nice large shower instead. To step in it is only about 2" and you can have a seat. Since it replaced the tub, it is 60" and big enough that I could shower with my wife to assist her in the seat. If you like to sit in a tub and relax, the walk in may be a good choice but if you just want to get clean, the shower may be more suitable. |

I recommend that instead of a walk-in tub, you might find a walk/drive-in shower with fold down seat and access for an assistant, much more flexible and useful in the long term. https://www.mobility-plus.co.uk/walk-in-showers/ can be used with one of these cheap waterproof shower chairs with wheels https://www.welcomemobility.co.uk/De...heeled-Shower- Chairs.aspx Janet UK |

Like you, I put in a nice walk in shower and love it. Two friends with those 'walk in' tubs say they would never do it again. What they both dislike is having to sit there until the thing slowly empties enough to open the door. One has 2 drains but it is not significantly faster emptying. Both of them recommended walk in shower with seat when I was changing out the bathroom. |

Agreed, the ones here who constantly advertise (for walk in showers) charge far too much. I had an estimate for $7000 to take out bath and put in shower. I decided it was pricey, went to a huge building supplier, picked out what I wanted and had their contractor do it, $5000 plus that included retiling the floor. He did it so beautifully I hired him privately to come back and do all sorts of work such as putting in crown moulding etc. and his painters painted it throughout. |

They simply WILL NOT give you a quote unless they come to your house which I suspect they use that opportunity for a hard sale. The few prices that people have shared for this tub is $11,000 and that's their rock bottom price. I had my entire bathroom remodeled for $12,500. That included the tub I had ordered from a number 1 company in Georgia, new vanity, tile, light fixture, recessed shelves at the front of the tub, new plumbing fixtures, towel bars, towel ring, and storage cabinet. My toilet was new so it remained as did the medicine cabinet with the attached large oval mirror. That total price also included 3 or 4 minor maintenance jobs around the house, too. |

The two men that did my remodel were guys that my brother and sister-in-law knew and they had done tons of remodeling for them. So, I felt confidant in hiring them and have had no issues with any work they've done since this was completed over 3 years ago. These type tubs can be bought through many plumbing stores as well as the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowe's. But then I'd have search for a plumber and maybe a remodeler so I feel like I really saved money in the long run getting two guys that could do the complete job. |

In some companies if you are sick and have no paid sick leave left you are allowed to use your vacation days as sick leave. The difficulty comes in with last minute calling in sick because there may be others out (or scheduled off) then, too. AFAIK those last minute vacation days taken as sick days require a doctor's note. Especially when you have an employee who is always out sick. Jill |
