Its not a good idea to drink starting out in the morning. You'll be drowsy all day. Unless maybe its Four Loco. |

I was to take care of the cats while my wife was visiting her family for Easter. She hadn't left for 15 minutes when I fell, how I don't know. I was on the floor and couldn't get up, couldn't reach a phone. So I lay there four days and nights until she came home and found me, called an ambulense and off to a rehab I went. This won't happen again, next time she leaves some neighbor will check on me. This was a horrendous experience, like a nightmare. |

You must have been hurt pretty badly to be down for 4 days. I never had much use for people who walk around with a cell phone glued to their ear but I started carrying one almost 11 years ago when I developed a heart issue. I figured I would need it in case something happened. My mother had a fall in her bathroom of condo one night and could not reach the phone. She could reach into the vanity and banged on the pipes and got the attention of her next door neighbour. When she got out of the hospital we got her one of those medical alert gizmos. |

That's stupid... when I fell all I was wearing was a tee shirt, no pockets. What if someone falls in the shower? From now on when I'll be home alone a neighbor will know to check on me. Two of my neighbors know where to find a key. And when I'm home alone I never lock the back slider anyway and my neighbors know that. Those thingies where you press a button are worthless, by the time they arrive you could be dead. It's far better to arrange with a neighbor to check on me. And there's no way to predict when you'll fall. It's best to inform a neighbor when you'll be home alone. |

She did not expect a call from you? You don't need a phone, you need a new wife, one that cares to check on you. Glad you survived but not good circumstances. When I travel I call home every night. When my wife travels, she call home every night. |

At my brother-in-law's memorial service, I talked about his accident that left him paralyzed. He was riding a horse when he got thrown. Back broken, and unable to move, he laid in the field for a day and night and a day. I talked about how he must have seen the starry night and contemplated his life and man's place in the universe. He was later found and lived a life that was probably fuller than most folk's. He was, like his brothers, restless roamers - even though paralyzed. After the service, my niece said she was wondering what I was talking about since his accident never happened like I described. Ha ha, my wife gave me the wrong story. My niece figured out that I was talking metaphysically and metaphorically. Ha ha, yeah, that's the ticket. |

That would be a very long 4 days. Not to mention laying in poo and pee from the 1st day or two. The house cats were pretty hungry too. Yes. Glad you're back and healing, Sheldon. Whew! ;-o |

Sorry to hear that Sheldon, really scary, get well soon.Old age is not for cissies. Get one of those necklets with a button that you can press to call for help via your landline when the phone is out of reach. Either of you can wear it when alone in the house and the other is away. http://www.lifealert.com/ Janet UK |

I thought about if the minister had gone on to say, just for consistency's > sake, that he had wetted his way across Sicily and Italy. It ranked up there with my other uncle Bill's funeral. Bill was a Scot who had married my Dad's brother's widow. He was a really nice guy. His surname was Goldson. His funeral was in a Presbyterian church. The minister was an idiot. I think that the he thought that the surname was Jewish and he talked about how "we Scots" have a lot in common with the Jews and both have a reputation for being good with a penny. Totally inappropriate. I was lucky to have two great uncle Bills, and it is strange that the outstanding memories of their funerals are the idiotic comments made by the ministers. |
