Default FYI About Sheldon

Just a quick note in case anyone else has noticed he hasn't been posting
and starts spreading misinformation. He's not dead. He's in the
hospital. He had a bad fall. Nothing broken, just badly bruised and
banged up.

Despite our many disagreements over the years, I *do* notice when
Sheldon hasn't posted for a while. After all, he's 78 years old. I
spoke with his wife, Kathleen, who is very gracious. She told me not to
worry, he'll be back in a week or so. (She said she thought about
getting him a tablet but then she'd have to teach him to use it and he's
not good with technology.) She thanked me for calling and will tell him
I was asking about him when she sees him tomorrow.

It's so sweet of all y'all to worry about this racist who dreams of 14
year old girls!

No problem. She said he's pretty banged up and lucky he didn't break a hip.

Maybe we should each have a note in our wallets: in case of emergency
and/or upon death, remind someone to please post a notice to
rec.food.cooking. A funny idea, but not really a joke.

So many posters drop out of sight.

I've been wondering about l not -l who used to post here frequently and
then disappeared. He was an older gent. He used to walk to the YMCA
gym then stop at an International Market next door. He lived in Saint
Louis. (Yeah, three posters from St. Louis). He sent me some Star
Anise after I posted a link to a recipe for what looked like a great
steak with some sauce calling for Star Anise. There are no Asian
markets here. I do not recall his actual name. He mostly stayed on
topic. The one thing I remember was his eating 'Egg Beaters' but he
loved Kerry Gold Irish butter spread on toasted English muffins. He
nearly always talked about food. Suddenly vanished. It's kind of
disturbing when older people who have contributed a lot to the group for
years suddenly vanish.

Yes! if someone knows how to get in touch and find out.

This does not mean I want him to start calling me again when he gets
home. We had a problem with that for a while some years back.

I'm glad to hear he's okay and his wife sounded very positive about things.

It was John Kuthe who not only dreams about 14 year old girls, but
claims to have sexually assaulted at least one 14 year old girl.

I used to work a block away from that "International Market," and the
Kirkwood, MO YMCA is a block away in the other direction. Dog3 lived
just a few miles east of there. I remember that I not -I used to drink Eight
O' Clock brand coffee. A crazy thing to remember.

We still shop at Global Foods because they have frozen passion fruit pulp
at reasonable prices, and my wife is quite passionate about passion fruit.
She'd always making passion fruit curd, or passion fruit frosting, or
whatever.

It was 'l not -l' (a Unix command) Was that Dog3? At any rate, l not
-l suddenly stopped posting. I suspect he died but it would be nice to
know. I always liked him. We had some very nice discussions about food.

Thanks, Jill.
I hope Sheldon is pretty much o.k. and didn't do anything serious or

I miss Sheldon's posts. They were a bit idiosyncratic but well
intentioned and usually knowledgeable. I hope he makes a full

I fell three times today mowing the back yard but I didn't get hurt at all. And I fell on concrete too. Backwards!

No to worry John. You could be dropped on your head and no one would
ever see any difference.

I'm fairly convinced he was dropped on his head in the 1970's since he
seems to be stuck in that time-frame.

OB Food: Breakfast for dinner. 2 large eggs into which I whisked a
drizzle of cold water, S&P and some shredded Monterey Jack cheese then
scrambled in a small amount of butter. Three strips of crisp bacon (not
cooked in that skillet - I bake bacon on a rack on a broiler pan and
freeze it in portions then reheat it in the microwave). Also had a
slice of buttered whole wheat toast, with a glass of very cold milk.

Another someone who has been missing for a while is Nancy2. (Not to be
confused with Nancy Young, I know she's okay.) Nancy2 was a woman of
about 80, if I recall correctly, and she also dropped off the screen a
while back.

Jinx the Minx (or similar) disappeared around the start of the
pandemic. Not necessarily related of course, but I remember she had
underlying conditions.

You should figure out why before you have a serious injury. That is not
normal.
