Less booze at work. Not PC enough?

Email is fine for some stuff but nothing replaces real conversation. I have three friends I talk to weekly, often for a long time. Not as good as face to face but much better than a computer. My Saturday morning call is to Sue. We worked together and had lunch together for 25 years and still have a lot to talk about. Could be 2 hours, sometimes more. |

My mother did and my son seems to have inherited that trait from her. I am more like my father. He used the phone to communicate messages, not for conversations. My son has bad cell phone reception by his house, only a block from the lake. He gets much better reception in his car. He often calls me on his way to work and he can chat the whole way there. A few years ago I reconnected with an old friend and we became quite close. He calls almost every day, sometimes two or three times. I also have a nephew who calls every week or two and talks for an hour or more. It's nice to hear from them but I am just not used to that. I will check my cell phone if it rings while I am out. I may or may not answer, depending on what I am doing. I have to wonder about people I see walking around in town or in malls with a phone glued to their ear. |

I have bought a couple of refurbished items online over the last few months. One of them is this desk top I am using. It was less than half price and it is working great. I have no issues at all with it. I also bought a Cuisinart Stand mixer. They sell for close to $400-500 around her but I got it for $229. |

These come with battery, phone, backplate,m and SIM still in factory bags and factory screen peel-off covering. No fingerprints or scratches, mint condition always. Actually my current one is LG Journey. Slightly better resolution and battery, but still was only $10. I have two LG Rebel 4's, one new, one slightly used as backups. You can swap service from phone to phone in a couple minutes if you break, lose, or forget one someplace (and then back again when you retrieve it). I don't understand why people spend $100's on a single phone. Needless to say, I don't panic like most people when I lose or break my phone. Then again, I don't run my life with my smartphone and don't store anything sensitive or important on it. -sw |

Frequently they have them on HSN and they come with 1500 minutes of text and talk included. If he doesn't like to text, that's fine, he can use his 1500 minutes for talking only; it's however he likes to use his minutes. |

Just got off the phone with one of my friends. About 1 1/2 hours. We talk about one a week. Not sure I'd want to talk to someone every day though a series of short calls is probably the same time I spend once a week. |

Some folks love talking on the phone. I had a co-worker who used to call his wife several times a day. She called him with about the same frequency. I worked in four different branches of the same government ministry for a total of 28 years. My wife called me a half dozen times, and two of those calls were about deaths in the family. The worst I saw was the girl friend of a friend of mine. When we visited them she spend half the time on her phone. When they visited us she would use our phone. That was pre cell phone. I had to imagine what she is like now. She would need at least two cell phones to keep up. -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

Even after we retired we'd see each other (along with my wife) for lunch or dinner or just a visit but too far to go now for just lunch. |

I wish I knew why everyone thinks you should marry your friend. I have the impression your wife was also your best friend. You lost her. There's no "replacing" her with another female who happens to be a friend. Jill |

Some people need a spouse or companion. I had an excellent one for 53 years but now content to be by myself. I can cook, do laundry, everything needed to survive. Many good memories too. When you marry, especially an older person, you get a lot of baggage. You get their kids, be they a success or living in the basement. I do enjoy the friendships I have. Sheldon does not think it is possible to not have sex when you visit but, that has been a good thing. If, over the preceding years, we had fooled around it could have ruined our marriages and friendship and I'd have nothing now. I plan to visit again soon so in the interest of everyone at RFC, if I get laid it will be reported. |

Very rude when talking to someone in person, their phone rings and they just have to answer it. grrrr > I have to wonder about people I > see walking around in town or in malls with a phone glued to their ear. For this very reason, I've wondered why the Covid isolation caused so many mental problems with so many. You've got your phone and can talk all day long. WHY do you need to talk person to person physically? |

That could work out well as a housemate situation if he ever desired such a thing. Separate bedrooms, just a companion to live with. No sex though. That would change the entire situation for better or worse. |

Even the grumpiest of them, a woman about Ian's age, softened when she saw Winter. The second day they'd eaten in the cafeteria, Winter's phone rang, and she just let it ring in her purse. She had been deciding between two side dishes, and had inquired what was in one of them when it rang. The woman had brusquely asked her, "Aren't you going to answer that?" Winter had said, "No, I'm already talking to somebody. Whoever it is, they can wait." Without even realizing how meaningful her words might be, Winter had told this person that she was "Somebody." _______________________________ --Bryan |

They would include carrying on phone conversations while ignoring a real person right there and talking to someone in person and constantly checking for texts. I can't tell you how many times I have seen a number of women sit down at a table and at least one of them gets her phone out and sets it on the table. > >> I have to wonder about people I >> see walking around in town or in malls with a phone glued to their ear. > > For this very reason, I've wondered why the Covid isolation caused so > many mental problems with so many. They want the option to do something even if they didn't really want to do it. |
