My mother had an issue with them too. Her taxes got messed up over a T5
for an annuity. They had demanded immediate payment. She sent a cheque
and the matter was sorted out and it turned out she didn't owe them
anything. However, they still demanded quarterly remittances. She send
them a cheque. A few months later, they were hounding her for payment.
She had the cancelled cheque but they had no record of it. Meanwhile,
she was still waiting for they to pay her back for that money she had
sent that she didn't really owe.The amount they were demanding from her
was less than the refund they owed her.

It's actually a 1953. I have lots of old coins and bills, but not many
odd ones or misprints. Probably thousands of dollars of silver. Kind
of got out of collecting it years ago.

Would not that be a Silver Certificate rather than a dollar?

I used to work for a property management company. Every once in a while, we'd go out an collect coins out of a building's parking meter. Going through the coins was a lot of fun!

I don't read all posts there.
I start with 3-4 posters and read all that they wrote.
Then I'll sort by "subject" and read what sounds interesting.

That ignores most of the spam.

You need a kill file there. Every time I download headers about 30% are

Is that 30% after it has already kill-filed according to existing rules?

Or do you mean 70% of the traffic is friendly chat about home repairs as
well as other off-topic discussions?

(As opposed to spam, trolling & interminable vendettas.)

I missed the night he went out with three other couples and every time a
round of drinks was delivered he we would slip out to the washroom.
Toward the end of the night the rest of them cooked up a plan with the
waiter. They all ordered the most expensive drinks on the menu. Of
course Cheap Bob scooted off to the washroom. The waiter came back for
the money after Bob got back. They all pointed to him and said "He's
buying" and the waited said "Yeah, you haven't paid for a drink all night."

> Do they still have bar tabs?

That would still involve him paying his share, something he always tried
hard to avoid.

Just 30%? Would that even hold just Bruce's posts?

There is a lot of off topic, mostly Covid, some politics, but that has
quieted a bit since the election. Most is pretty friendly but like most
newsgroups these days, little on topic threads.

There will be some auto related, small engine problems too. Recent
thread about getting best interest rates, Tolerable once you KF the
worst idiots.

Now it's mostly anti-vaccine posts and I've nearly given up on
talking to those fools. <shrug>

But Dave. That was not his question. Exclusive clubs might do it. A bar
manager might have a habit of doing it for personal friends. I've only
ever seen this at one bar. Actually it was the same bar close to work
where we went after baseball.

After dessert my last drink was always Orish Coffee. That was during my
days of youthful experimentation, so they also brought me my own 6-
compartment spice shaker that they kept behind the bar somewhere. It had
cocoa, cinnamon, anise, cola, carob & chicory.

I am disappointed in one of my nephews. He is a teaching assistant and
has been prioritized for the vaccine but does not want to get it. My
son, OTOH, is a front line worker and had been lobbying for he and his
co-workers to get priority. He lucked out and cut the shot yesterday
because they dropped the age for Astrazenec. His fiancee gets hers
today. While the Pfizer vaccine is in short supply here there is an
abundance of Astrazeneca. It seems no one wants that one because there
is a very small risk of a very treatable blood clot, a minuscule risk
compared to the risk of catching Covid19, or getting a blood clot with
Covid19.

Within the last two weeks my wife and I, our son and his fiancee, my
brother and SiL, and most of my friends have had the vaccine.

It's been a long time since I was out drinking with a group. The
incident where this happened was an Ontario "hotel" the sort of place
had a men's side and a Ladies and Escorts side and that used to only
beer, though by that time they also sold wine and liquor. These days
the only times I go out for drinks is with my motorcycling buddies. It
is usually just me and my friend but there may be one or two others.
They generally ask if we want to run a tab, but we are only there for
one beer so we don't do that.

I often used to pass on dessert and have a nice single malt whiskey.

You always used to say you read everything. But I guess that was before
the huge influx of trolls and froggers. I'm using a killfile for the
first time ever. I filter out aioe and Neodome and then a couple of
individuals. Very peaceful.

No, Bruce. I said I had not kill-filed anyone except for the real doctor
anti-charter starvation therapy pioneer Andrew B. Cheung.

Just because I look at the headers does not mean I read everything.

In fact, it always gives me a tingle of pleasure whenever I delete one of
your posts unread. Now, if I don't check the headers, I can get the same
pleasure deleting messages from your forger. It's win / win for everyone.

I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to Gary. Genius.

I think it's also a bit area dependent. Here, it's pretty common but
they take your credit card to start it unless you are a regular they
can trust.

I read everything here in RFC and a few other small groups but I've
never read all in alt.home.repairs.

At least one of the trolls uses Eternal September. Filter that too?

By name in that case. The only one I'm not always sure about is the
Pamela frogger. They both use eternal september.

That would not be good. I go after those with a different method.

Because of your browser, not your network connection.

That's not how it works when you use an up to date browser. It's
always encrypted when you establish a connections with banks and
such. It's encrypted in your browser and can only be decoded when
it reaches your banks web servers. Same with everything they send
to you over the network. They pay fees for their SSL certificates
that make all this possible, but are useless if your browser is out
of date.

Just to note... I wasn't using the old Netscape browser for this. I was
using Thunderbird on the neighborhood wifi connection.

It was (and still is) Thunderbird vs 45.0
I should update it, I suppose. lol

That said, it wasn't as out of date 3 years ago as it is now.
I've always heard not to use secure info (like a bank password) on a
shared network.

Thunderbird is an email client. You don't browse the web with it.

Firefox, both Mozilla products. (How funny he still has Netscape
somewhere.)

Or just Tracfone for about $120 for a full year with about 2G of data, for web browsing. LG is ending its cellphone business so smartphones should be cheap.

His Netscape 4.73 (circa 2000) was a combo product that included
mailer and browser, IIRC. Mozilla Seamonkey would be its
predecessor.

Why funny? It still worked perfectly for Usenet.
That's all it was good for near the end (last November when my dialup
was cancelled).

And at the time, I used Thunderbird for email and Firefox for the newer
secure (Https) browsing. That connect is free...a perk of renting here.

Consider an 'old paid for' car. You only use it to go to a grocery
store. Would you sell that and get a new car when the old one still
works perfectly? No. Best to use it until it breaks, then replace it.

Now I use Thunderbird, Firefox and the free wifi for everything...for now.

Oops There you go winning again. It was Firefox v 46.0
That's what I had then (and still use).
I should upgrade that too.
