I spend my teen years living in a city wither a lot of automotive
manufacturing. There were two GM plants and there were a number of
strikes where the autoworkers walked out to support their demands.
There was another major automotive company that was non union. Whenever
the autoworkers went on strike and got a raise or better benefits, the
other company would match them.

It was a good deal for the non union shop. They got the raises that the
GM workers got without ever having to go on strike and losing a couple
weeks pay. I doubt they would have got the pay and benefits if they
didn't have GM workers doing the heavy lifting to raise the pay bar.

The unionized workers are too greedy?? Not compared to the CEOs who
make 200 times as much as the workers.

Gain the skill set to be a CEO vice sweep floors or other less skilled
trade work (and yes, the highly skilled ones do make a lot more).

Sure. Machinists, pipe fitters, plumbers and other skilled workers
should earn more than janitors and unskilled labour. Tradesmen make
more than burger flippers.... not 200 times as much.

"Gain the skill set to be a CEO vice sweep floors or other less skilled
trade work": I'm sure this means something but what? It could be code
language for the Russians.

The late Leonard Lee, founder of Lee Valley Tools, limited exec pay
including his own, to no more than 10 times the lowest paid staff member.

Ben & Jerry had a 7X limit. When they wanted to hire a manager to run
the operations they could not find one willing to work for that wage.

It has really gotten out of hand in the past 30 or so years.
Celebrities and sports are right up there too.

They made us put machine guards on our punch presses. The owner would have
done it anyway, after the workmen´s comp premiums rose to his awareness.
Nevertheless, a few fingertips, or worse, were saved.
I give OSHA credit for machine guards. That´s all they ever came after us
for.
I didn´t care for insurance company auditors either.

We were one of the first audits in the old plant. I could point out a
dozen potential problems. They found an ungrounded refrigerator in the
break room.

You should try ordering guitars from China - it's exciting and disappointing at the same time.
