The food at Hamilton General had been quite palatable. I was also
disappointed with the food when I had my gall bladder out. I had been
on a clear fluids diet at home for almost a week, and they kept me on
that because I was to have surgery in the morning. Fair enough, but they
kept it up. I wanted real food. The nurse kept promising me real food,
but then they would bring me more broth, jello and tea. I ended up
staying two more nights after the surgery and on the last morning I
refused it. The nurse felt sorry for me and brought me something.

One of the guys that rides with us is a doctor. He says they purposely
serve bad food because they want people to want to go home.

One of the nice things about no frills flights is that you don't have to
sit there salivating during the food service only to be so bitterly
disappointed by the food. My flew to Vancouver a couple years ago and
made the mistake of buying a sandwich on the plane. Chicken with pesto
and stuffing. It sounded weird but was the most attractive thing
offered. It was worse than I had expected.

On my return flight we had a short layover in Calgary. I bought a
chicken wrap at the airport. It was twice the size, half the price and
quite tasty.

I love the food in the Amtrak dining car. Is the food on VIA good too?

There must be somewhere you get some official proof

We are not planning to go away this year, and I am hoping my daughter
and grands can visit from Germany so it is not a problem for us ....
this time!!!!

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Humminbirds don't actually hum, they chirp (rather quietly). It's their
wings that make a sort of humming sound.

When the pandemic lockdowns started last year and masks became
mandatory, I saw a younger woman in the grocery store with a sticker on
her shirt that said "Exempt from Wearing a Mask". Granted, you cannot
tell by looking at someone whether or not they have an underlying health
condition. But while everyone else in the store wask wearing a mask and
social distancing this woman was going out of her way to walk up to and
talk to people. Each time I saw her I turned and went in a different
direction. Anyone with a printer could print up a bunch of stickers
like that.

Last week I returned from six weeks of physical rehab in a very similar place. The care was top - notch, all staff members were super, from the cleaners on up to the MD's...

The food was generally appalling, I was on a "soft" diet, so meat, etc., was often ground up, resembled dog food or Kuthe Chow...

I had a mini - fridge in the room, and the lounge around the corner had a micro for cooking and a large fridge that I could use to store frozen items.. I ended up ordering most of my vittles from Amazon Fresh grocery delivery, so I was okay...also ordered take - out several times.

I was lucky I had a nice quiet room, not too much drama with LOUD teevee's, etc...

What was shocking was the RUDE behaviors of some of the other patients towards the kind and caring staff...I can understand how "nursing home abuse" can occur, I told the nurses that if I ran this joint these atrocious patients would be OUT on the street, lol...

I enjoyed chatting with staff, especially the CNA's, they work hard for pretty much minimum wage ($15/hour here). I gifted the nursing and physical therapy staff with lotsa nice chocolate, plus constantly thanking them for their effort and time...when I left they were really sincerely happy that I had been there, adding that they hoped they'd *not* see me again, lol...

Anyways, Sheldon, I am glad you are back home and back here, hope all is coming along okay for you...

Now that I'm much more vigorous and energetic and On The Road to Wellville I am ready to go out and KICK some SOCIALIAST/DUMBOCRATIC ass, lol...

PS: I had no erotic experiences with anyone either in the hospital or the rehab center - in case Steve Wertz is wondering...

Popeye was probably traumatized by gigantic enormous huge jewish
knockers that he'd never seen before. Those nurses tits were the
size of the titanic! The poor sailor simply passed out, and don't
remember.

Tatoos take too long. How about just a quick branding of a "V" on your
arm?

There was a time all those shots were required for living outside the
US, too. When we lived in Bankok when I was a child I had to get a ton
of shots (and booster shots for some every six months). And again
coming back. No one wants anyone to continue to be able to catch and
transmit diseases simply by travel. Covid-19 is a tricky thing because
it keeps changing. No one actually knows how well the available
vaccines will work yet.

I do hope you'll be able to come back and be with your family in the
States soon.

LOL! When we flew to Bangkok in 1969 after Dad received his transfer
orders, I remember being given a choice of smoked duck or some sort of
steak on the plane. And no, we weren't flying "first class". Dad
suggested I try the smoked duck. I did and it was delicious! Airline
food for overseas flights used to be actual food. I don't know how they
did it but the microwave wasn't in common use, much less on airplanes,
in 1969.

I couldn't begin to guess what it would be like now.

I think there might be some people who would object to being required to
get and show a tattoo.

When my son went to work in Uganda he had to get a number of
vaccinations. It was quite to procedure to arrange for them and to get
them spaced out.

There has never been a nearby Amtrak or any train station near where I
lived. I'd like to know what the food is like in a train dining car.

My only references to dining cars on trains come from old movies.
'Murder on the Orient Express'. Obviously not Amtrak. North by
Northwest (Cary Grant travelled on the 20th Century Limited bound for
Chicago.) Not sure about the railway in the Hitchcock film.

When was the last time you ate in a dining car on a train? What kind of
things were on the menu?

Train service in Canada sucks. It is a much nice way to travel than bus,
but service is spotty and serves only a couple of corridors. We once
took the train from Calgary to Vancouver. The scenery was amazing. The
food sucked. Lunch on Day 1 was a hamburger, potato chips and pea
soup. The hamburger was pretty basic, a cheap patty on a cheap bun with
a slice of tomato, a slice of pickle and a piece of lettuce. No potato
chips. Despite having sat at the station in Calgary for two hours no one
bothered to get more chips. It came with a bowl of pea soup. I think
the cook mistook ready to go canned pea soup with condensed canned soup
and watered it down.

We missed supper in the dining car because the porter came around to see
if we wanted to reserve a table for the third and final seating at 10pm,
and that didn't work because we were travelling with a 5 year old.

My breakfast was okay, just bacon and eggs. My son asked for a
continental breakfast that was supposed to be tea or coffee and a
muffin. Somewhere along the line the waiter walked by and slid a plate
of toast to him. A while later I asked what happened to the muffin and
the snotty answer was "We're out of muffins. I gave him toast".

A few years later we travelled around Europe on a rail pass. The food
was pretty good on the trains in Germany and France.

<snork> Of course there would! I was being facetious when I suggested
anyone be *branded*, too. I had 'The Scarlet Letter' by Hawthorne in
mind except she wasn't branded, it was an A sticked to her dress.

I'm afraid there will not be any way to know. I'm still going to keep
my distance, wear a mask, wash my hands, etc. The little pin says I
received both doses. That's all.

I was a child but I remember having to go back week after week before we
actually left the States so yes, I guess they spaced them out. We had
to be there by a certain date, though, and boy did those shots hurt!

The Covid-19 vaccine pales in comparison in terms of arm pain. My
little one armed chicken dance routine took care of that.

What also sucks is Canadian mail service. Sending to and from the US is
fast. Canada takes forever. It's like a black hole.

I like the branding. It would be the Logo of the vaccine maker.

Would the Pfizer be a simple P or an F?

I like Jill´s idea. A small, unique to covid, hot brand, given on the palm
when the inoculation is completed, would allow the recipient to concentrate
on how much the brand hurt instead of the shot. Quick and easy.
High fives would finally start to mean something.

In my experience they chirp disproportionately loudly for their size,
especially during the migration when they're defending the feeder.
They not much quieter than a woodpecker's chirp.

What are you talking about?

My husband got his vaccination at his allergist's office. I got mine
from the county Health Department at a mass vaccination site.
Two different locations.

They quite soon will.

There is a MASSIVE national public research program going
on in UK where volunteers are regularly PCR tested for
covid (tracking variant infections), blood tested for
antibodies, and this is all correlated with their
vaccination records.
