I would not refuse to eat something because it is vegan. I just don't
buy into it and I am not prepared to cater to guests who choose a vegan
diet. I have to saw that every once in a while when I am at the corner
bakery I get one of their vegan peanut butter squares. They are
incredible. When I went to Georgia with the club a couple years ago the
group was willing to indulge out vegan member and someone made an
delicious vegan chili. I cooked some shrimp and someone else cooked
sausage. The vegan dish was good, but the shrimp and sausage made it a
meal.

Over the years we've had friend that are pescatarian and vegetarian and
never had a problem. We could always make a suitable meal or enjoy one
at their house. Vegan would be out of the question. Bring your own food.

Eating a vegan dish because you want to is one thing. Eating it for
ideological reasons is retarded.

I have a vegan friend that I will humor and make meat free dishes like
vegan chili last time he came to visit to help repair a house we are
flipping. I can substitute meat and meat products, but I won't deal
with dairy, egg, and whatever else free -- that's too much hassle. Most
vegans I know are kind of 'prissy', but he's 'socially vegetarian' for
this reason, and apparently pizza tastes good... lol

A few vegan dishes are great. Like those veggie burgers. They've really come along quite a bit. Especially when steamed.

Sir, I'll have you know that faux meat has been declared illegal by RFC.

Nothing wrong with vegan meals but would be a pain to eat that way
exclusively.

Sure, I've made vegan meals but mostly by accident. My salad for lunch
me be a nice vegan meal with olive oil dressing, but there is a good
chance I'll screw it up with a sour cream based dressing.

Vegetarian is not that hard, I can pass on a pork chop, but eggs,
butter, ice cream are necessities.

Bringing one's own doesnt work for kosher, every family's concept of
kosher is different... most practising Jews won't eat Hebrew National
products because they are sold in non kosher markets. A kosher
butcher shop is either 100% kosher or it's not kosher at all.

The best veggie burgers are potato latkas.

I bet the Whole Foods markets in Brooklyn carry fake meat.

Oh hush. The two bruces are talking amongst themselves about veggie
burgers. Obviously they know more than we do about what tastes good. Heh.

'Impossible' (plant based) faux meat is for sale these days even at your
beloved Tops Market. Doesn't mean many of us want to eat it.

Even before this odd meatlike substance (it's not frozen, it's in a
cryo-vac'd package that looks like ground beef - talk about MYSTERY
MEAT!) there were frozen Boca Burgers. Lots of chemicals pretending to
taste like meat. Don't ask me why some vegetarians want to eat this
faux meat stuff.

For a while Burger King had a huge TV advertising push "Impossible
Whoppers". "Plant based meat. That ad campaign lasted about 6 months
then suddenly it's gone and they're back to touting two whole beef
patties on a sesame seed bun. Go figure.

Advertising for such things, especially fast food, has ZERO impact on my
interest in trying it. I've tasted Boca burgers in years past and they
taste like crap.

I'd find no eggs the hardest part. I love cheese but I already don't
eat it every week.

From a deli in New York, right?

Even if it's sold by a schlemiel at a kosher deli?

I can only speak for myself. Many of the faux ones taste good to me.
The ingredient list can be bad, though. But at least "animal suffering"
isn't on it.

Who says you want to eat it? Can we only talk about things YOU want to
eat here? That would be quite limiting.

Maybe they like the taste of meat but don't like the animal abuse?
Sorry, was that hard to understand?

I don't think staunch corpse eaters are the main target audience of
these ads.

When I lived in Philadelphia we would get them at a kosher vegetarian
restaurant. Blintzes too!

It was a great place and the waiters were older gentlmen that worked
there for years.

Thats ok. Most vegetarians are ok with milk and egg products.

I saw yesterday that my local s/m has started stocking vegan "butter".
However, judging by the contents, it's a helluva lot healthier to eat
real butter.

But real butter requires a dairy industry. Dairy industry means animal
abuse.

That's not bad at all.

That's not vegan. The sea salt is bound to have residuals of Marine
animals.

And that's not butter. It's a spread but not butter in any shape
or form.

They don't like it when you call it champagne when it's not from the
Champagne area etc. That has to do with geographic origin. It's not the
same thing. Can you call it chocolate when it's 90% xanthan gum? Can
you call them fries when they're 80% foam suppressant? Those are more
similar questions to the vegan butter question.

Maybe they can call it better than butter.
