That is part of the story. Many parents take the kids so they will be
occupied by the toy and not be a fuss they have to handle as a real parent.

Master Doctor, canadian children are much smarter than dutch
children. At only 10 years old, they can out sniff you.

Americans are the dumb asses.

I think McDonalds will just stick with meat beef, chicken and pork.

I love that stuff although I've never poured it over a burger. The big news in Kailua is that a Wendy's is opening there. Praise the Lord - truly, this is paradise!

I doubt it. I went through something similar with my son when he was
about that age. We had been to the city to see the museum. It was about
lunch time when we left. There was a McDonalds across the street and
right next to it there was an old, established restaurant. He wanted to
go to McDonalds but I explained to him that the restaurant had more
comfortable seating and that the food, while a little more expensive
would be much better and larger portions. It was an easy sell and I was
never again pestered to go to McDs.

Nothing silly about it. Many parents can't be bothered to discipline
their kids and the kids haven't been taught how to behave in public.
Having a free toy to play with kept them occupied. Some McD's used to
have playgrounds for the same reason, although I think those have fallen
by the wayside in recent years.

Wasn't it Gary who said he had to *trick* his daughter into eating
breaded fried "nuggets" by saying it was chicken but they were actually
made from shark or some such thing? *That* is a silly story.

Is that the language you taught your kids?

My daughter was neglected, I never brought her to any fast food joint.
Instead I prepared a simple lunch of sandwhiches and fruit and we'd go
to a park, a zoo, a museum, etc. Brooklyn has plenty of parks, zoos,
museums, etc.
A zoo was her favorite next to kite flying at a park. There're plenty
of ways to entertain kids besides fast food joints, and there're
certainly better ways to feed them, kids love picniks. Even now that
they are older The grands like to go bike riding. They prefer bike
riding here than in the crowded city, we make the rounds of the
livestock farms, and many of the farms sell their produce and
excellent baked goods. And there's plenty of boating and fishing.
Also lots of organizations host weekend BBQs in the towns. This being
Armed Forces day I'm sure the BBQ trailers have already arrived. All
summer there's plenty of fast food at town fairs, drive through town
and smell the corn dogs and funnel cakes.

Sure it does. You don't live there anymore and haven't for a long time.

How many times have you said when your grand-kids came to visit they
didn't want to eat the food you cooked? They were raised on fast food
and convenience food and that's what they expected when they came to visit.

Not to worry. Hopefully they will eventually grow up and perhaps their
palates will change.
