Too many stolen guns available. https://www.americanprogress.org/iss...-guns-america/ According to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), during the four-year period from 2012 to 2015, nearly half a billion dollars worth of guns were stolen from individuals nationwide, amounting to an estimated 1.2 million guns.3 Twenty-two thousand guns were stolen from gun stores during this same period.4 A gun is stolen in the U.S. every two minutes. |

A lot of those stolen guns end up being smuggled into Canada. Then the anti gun crowd start chirping that we should ban all hand guns because criminals steal them and that the more guns there are the more access criminals will have to them. The former chief of police for Toronto, now Minister of Public Safety, claimed the majority of handguns used in crimes had been stolen locally. That turned out to be a crock because the RCMP who track that stuff didn't agree with that. Stolen in the US and smuggled in is not the same as stolen domestically. Toronto sees roughly 80 handgun murders a year, almost everyone of them involving young FITB gang members. In the last 20 years there has been only one shooting involving a legally owned handgun in the hands of a licensed owner. Apparently gun control efforts are only effective against law abiding people. |

Criminals don't buy at sporting good stores either. https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/suficspi16.pdf An estimated 287,400 prisoners had possessed a firearm during their offense. Among these, more than half (56%) had either stolen it (6%), found it at the scene of the crime (7%), or obtained it off the street or from the underground market (43%). Most of the remainder (25%) had obtained it from a family member or friend, or as a gift. Seven percent had purchased it under their own name from a licensed firearm dealer |

Maybe I'll take a roadtrip out your way and steal your librarian wife and ruin all your retirement plans.
