The Southern States were already concerned with the future of slavery at the
time of the adoption of the Constitution. What was the purpose militias in post
Revolutionary America? Mostly as a force against potential slave insurrections.
The words, €œA well regulated Militia," made the Amendment more palatable to
Northern States, but it was set off by a comma in a funny way. Like the 2/3
Compromise, the 2nd Amendment was a compromise between free and slave
states, while looking to the general population like it had something to do with
national defense.

Like it or not, at the very heart of the founding of the USA was an agreement
that Southern States be allowed to have a system where human beings were
the property of other human beings. They could whip them. They could rape
them. And if they saw the need, they could even kill them. They could, and
*did* do those things, with impunity toward any moral or ethical decency,
and without fear of the law, because the law was on their side. The law said
that slaves were not full persons. They were like animals as far as having any
rights, but they counted as 2/3 of a person for apportionment of seats in the
US House, and for votes in the Electoral College.

A lot of those stolen guns end up being smuggled into Canada. Then the
anti gun crowd start chirping that we should ban all hand guns because
criminals steal them and that the more guns there are the more access
criminals will have to them. The former chief of police for Toronto, now
Minister of Public Safety, claimed the majority of handguns used in
crimes had been stolen locally. That turned out to be a crock because
the RCMP who track that stuff didn't agree with that. Stolen in the US
and smuggled in is not the same as stolen domestically.

Toronto sees roughly 80 handgun murders a year, almost everyone of them
involving young FITB gang members. In the last 20 years there has been
only one shooting involving a legally owned handgun in the hands of a
licensed owner. Apparently gun control efforts are only effective
against law abiding people.

I have dated 3 librarians since then. They tend to have that personality

What's the big deal... anyone with the gelt who can reach the counter
can buy a 12 ga., even an eight year old. In a gun fight I'll put my
12 ga. up against your pistol... at best you may wound me, at worst
I'll blow your head off. Any firearms expert will say for personel
protection nothing beats a 12 ga... bad guys break into your home and
hear the sound of a 12 ga. racking they'll shit their pants.

in 1968 when Canada put health care in place, I remember well the
yelling and screaming and threats of almost instant death caused by it
