CNN
Texas moves toward permit-free gun carrying, joining five other states
this year.
A controversial proposal to allow Texans to carry handguns in public
without obtaining a license or training passed the state Senate Wednesday.

Open carry has been permitted in most states forever.

Michigan's open carry law is substantially similar. We're not being shot
down in cold blood. A permit is required for concealed carry of a loaded
handgun.

Governor of Tennessee just signed into legislation within the last 30 days or
so a permit-free and open carry law. The general consensus is "meh."

Master doctor druce: black people always claim *everything* is
racist. If their check comes on the second of the month instead of
the first, for example.

With everybody having access to guns, you'll get lots of situations
where seconds count.

There's a serious "ice" (crystal meth) problem in parts of Australia. I
especially wouldn't like to see those people walking around with a gun.
They're dangerous enough when they're driving a car.

The whole idea of feeling a need to be armed is scary enough. The very
least I would expect is that they be trained. They need to be trained in
the basics of firearms, firearm safety, and when they can legally shoot
someone. In most civilized societies that would mean just about never,
but some states have those castle laws that allow people to shoot anyone
on their property. I am thinking of a case in Texas where man shot
someone who had been burlarising his neighbour's house, and the
Zimmerman trial where a guy followed and harassed a kid who he thought
had no right to be there and ended up shooting and killing him.

I feel that way sometimes, then I feel guilty but OTOH I am too old
now to try and change things. In the scheme of things anyway, that
which I did try to change when young, Ban the Bomb, End Apartheid
didn't change anything really. We still have nuclear weapons (more of
them as well) and what replaced apartheid in S. Africa is almost
worse.

I don't understand how you can possibly make that statement! Just the
figures for children accidentally killing others when they find guns
is the worst in the world.

It is a damned shame. We were all aphalled by a Apartheid and we happy
to see it end and to see black Africans able to have a role in their
government. Similar upset happened in Rhodesia. Anti black racism there
was replaced with ant white racism. The white farmers had been
instrumental in making that country an economic powerhouse. Then the new
regime crapped on the white farmers, took their land and redistributed
it to "veterans", many of whom were way to young to have been involved
in the war. They drove the economy down the tubes. It was not the way we
expected things to go.

"I don't understand how you can possibly make that statement!"
Translation: The people don't think the same way I do? This doesn't
compute!

"just the

It's called getting a perspective. In the grand scheme of things, such
deaths are insignificant. ****s like you want the world to conform to
your image, and nerf the world to the point where life no longer has
any joy.

Open carry has NOT been OK in "most states" except under very
specific rules . In Arkansas , I can carry openly at any time with some
specific exceptions - like court rooms and other offices in the local
courthouse . I can carry concealed while on a "journey" - which is
defined as any trip out of my home county . I seldom carry these days ,
partly because there is a weapon (not necessarily a gun ...) within
close proximity at all times when at home , and partly because I feel
safe surrounded by like minded people . When we visit the kids in
Memphis is another story .

At least 34 states have open carry, check the facts
before running your pie hole.
