With everybody having access to guns, you'll get lots of situations where seconds count. There's a serious "ice" (crystal meth) problem in parts of Australia. The whole idea of feeling a need to be armed is scary enough. The very least I would expect is that they be trained. They need to be trained in the basics of firearms, firearm safety, and when they can legally shoot someone. In most civilized societies that would mean just about never, but some states have those castle laws that allow people to shoot anyone on their property. I am thinking of a case in Texas where man shot someone who had been burlarising his neighbour's house, and the Zimmerman trial where a guy followed and harassed a kid who he thought had no right to be there and ended up shooting and killing him. |

We were all aphalled by a Apartheid and we happy to see it end and to see black Africans able to have a role in their government. Similar upset happened in Rhodesia. Anti black racism there was replaced with ant white racism. The white farmers had been instrumental in making that country an economic powerhouse. Then the new regime crapped on the white farmers, took their land and redistributed it to "veterans", many of whom were way to young to have been involved in the war. They drove the economy down the tubes. It was not the way we expected things to go. |

You don't live here. Open carry has NOT been OK in "most states" except under very specific rules . In Arkansas , I can carry openly at any time with some specific exceptions - like court rooms and other offices in the local courthouse . I can carry concealed while on a "journey" - which is defined as any trip out of my home county . I seldom carry these days , partly because there is a weapon (not necessarily a gun ...) within close proximity at all times when at home , and partly because I feel safe surrounded by like minded people . When we visit the kids in Memphis is another story . -- Snag Race only matters to racists ... |
