Default Question from reporter

Hello! I'm working on an interesting story about food waste. A
University of Arizona professor recently released a study in which he
reveals that Americans waste a lot of food, from harvesting through
retail all the way to kitchens and dining rooms. (More on his study
he http://tinyurl.com/7ywb3 )

I'm wondering if any of you would care to share your tips on how you
avoid food waste while cooking -- or, if it's not a problem in your
household.

Any comments appreciated! You may email me directly, or post back to
the list. Thanks for your time!

Best Regards,
Dru Sefton

No doubt it's a problem, but you're probably going to have some problems
with the definition of "waste". I discard a lot that would certainly
provide nutrition to people, but most of it goes in the compost pile.
The compost pile feeds myriad bugs, microbes, etc., and then in turn
feeds the soil of my garden, which in turn feeds me. So....is that
really waste?
Have you checked out SARE?

Agreed. Word for the day: doggie bag.

Ok, so it's two words. But...

I feel badly about that because some animal died for nothing. Still,
it happens. But it is one reason I bought a tilia ... I was tired
of throwing out meat from the freezer because it was freezer burned.

That's the problem with me for fresh salad, I can only eat so much.
By the time you buy all the ingredients you like in a salad, you have
enough fresh produce for a family of 8. No gots.

When I eat out, I almost always order something that will make great
leftovers. I'll never eat it all, but it usually makes lunch for 2
the next day. The only waste is getting that garnish off my plate
before they wrap it up for me.

Yeah, but mostly a waste of a brain.
