Ah, well, it goes both ways. There was an electricity crisis in my city a
few years back, which disadvantaged those who had electric cooking/hot
water. But then there was a gas crisis not long after, which turned the
tables on the rest of us.

obfood: That was one of my first cooking triumphs. My Mum lent me a
little bench-top electric stove, and I could only close it by slamming the
door, and I'd already bought the ingredients for my first ever attempt at
souffle... But it came out wonderfully well

BTW, I do prefer gas cooking for various reasons, but power outages is one
I hadn't thought of.

Hope the tuna salad is good

Hmm, no gas grill?!?!?

Nothing stopping you from cooking with gas.... propane is readily available
most everywhere throughout the northeast

>P.S. cold hardwood floors suck also.

A small propane heater in the basement will remedy that.... heck, install a
propane generator too while you're at it.... something just enough for running
the fridge and a TV is plenty.

Aside from outages -

The onlly (three) times I've had an oven fire have been on an electric stove.

Fire is good.

On the other hand, I use a crock pot, microwave and even a hotplate a lot.

It is good to have redundancy in heat source.

Let the propane tank run out? No gas in the car to go get it filled.

Just a thought.

You must mean a five hundred (500) gallon propane tank... a 5000 gallon tank
would be larger than your double-wide. And propane generators are widely
available... the best choice for full home use.

I'm sorry you aren't comfortable with it; I've spent a lifetime explaining

My propane regulator on the side of the house froze up last year.
That was a cold day. Luckily thawed it out before everything started
to get too cold.

Richard,

At the family farm, we had a wood burning cooking stove. Didn't do much
to heat the house though.

A neighbor has a wood burning heating system. I can smell it outside on
occasion and the aroma is wonderful!

My fireplaces aren't much use as far as heating goes. Rather they suck
the heat up the chimney.

Read my lips... you are full of shit... you live in a fercocktah trailer park
and it ain't your pond.

>Sorry Sheldon, it's a 5,000 gallon tank!

I have a 3,500 sq ft house in upstate NY (winters colder than a witch's tit). I
heat my entire house with propane, make hot water and cook all with propane,
and all I need is a 500 gallon tank, which is more than adequate. And a 500
gallon tank is a huge thing, about 4' diameter, 8' long... like I said, a 5,000
gallon tank would be larger than the friggin' trailer you call home.

With a 5,000 gallon tank you're talking minimally $7,500 worth of propane,
enough to heat an entire 3,500 sq ft house in northern New England, for at
least *three years*... besides the fact that having more than a 1,000 gallon
propane tank on residential property in the US is illegal. Now everyone knows
that besides being an ignoranus you are also a liar.

You claim to have at least 40 acres, with a 5,000 gallon propane tank, and you
never heard of a propane generator... you're a miserable low life LYING
*******!

The tanker that delivers my propane is 3,000 gallons, a huge truck. Most
residenses that heat with propane get by fine with a 250 gallon tank but since
I have the room to hide the tank I went to the next size... anything larger is
ridiculous.

Anyone with a working brain can peruse this site and *easily* figure out that
Andy (the newbie putz) is a LIAR!

Heh heh! Not *my* not thinking. One of those others (posting above). I have
natural gas for everything but the burner for my Kamado grills. It is used
primarily for lighting the lump charcoal, so if I did run out it would hardly be
a crisis. I'd just light using a charcoal chimney.
But I *did* word it rather poorly.

I used natural gas on Lung Guyland for nearly 30 years, not once was there a
gas crisis... one summer day the gas company went around installing new valves
at the curb, no gas for about two hours, not a crisis... in fact a month prior
everyone involved received a letter describing the impending *petty
inconvenience*, wasn't even a surprise. And since this occured in the middle
of a weekday during normal working hours most were away at work and never even
realized until they arrived home and found the tag on their front door telling
to turn the valve back on at the gas meter and relight any pilot lights.

Similar thing happened during the last two Hurry-Kanes through here (Orlando).
They shut off the main after we were supposed to have evacuated, and sent a crew
out to turn off all the curb-valves and post notes on the doors. I'm assuming
this was done after the "All Clear" was issued.

Considering the alternative, even without the prior warning you received, was
only slightly inconvenience. Your "*petty inconvenience*" describes it well.
