Default a kinda xmas rant

Well it is office party time...We're moving around the 25 of january to a
new building, so this Wednesday is a combined xmas lunch and goodbye old
building bash. Some groups move sooner others later. There's numerous
depts. in the building Approx 150 people.

It is all employee driven and funded...Catered with Ukranian food. Cheap
Company didn't even come thru with a cake, a handshake or kiss my
ass..., zip, blank...nada.

The lunch tickets are $11 each and each Dept needs to supply 1 dessert
per every 7-10 people in thier Dept. Well I got picked to do the dessert(
8 people in my Dept.), so my lunch costs me an extra $28 bucks. This
bothers me, but not a lot. Perhaps I shoulda bought a sheet cake. No then
I'd feel guilty.

I made this (doubled the recipe) in 2 foil 9X11 pans using a part oreo
part graham waffer crumb crust...I also added Brazilian Black Cocoa to
the crust (it looked weird all tan and black crumbs so the cocoa made it
look kinda all black).

Yeah I know Cool whip...but I can make it today and on Wednesday it'll
still be reasonably fresh tasting if wrapped tight in the fridge.

@@@@@ Now You're Cooking! Export Format

Alan's Dreamsicle Delight Pie

desserts, pies

1 large tub Cool Whip; least 12 oz.)
1 pkg (8 oz.) fat free cream cheese, softened
1 small box sugar free vanilla pudding
1 small box box sugar-free orange gelatin
1 small can pineapple tidbits (i used crushed)
1 small can mandarin orange slices
1 low-fat graham cracker crust

Cream together the container of cool whip with the fat-free cream cheese.
Blend until smooth. Add vanilla pudding and orange gelatin over mixture
slowly and mix well until very smooth. Gently fold in the
drained pineapple and orange slices, pour into pie shell and refridgerate
several hours (4+) or overnight. I used 1 tub of cool whip for the
filling (the ultra fat free). I garnished from another tub of cool whip
(the low fat). You can substitute different fruits and different jello's
or serve this parfait style. Cocoa in the garnishing coolwhip is a nice
change. Use a chocolate crumb or graham Waffer Crumb pie shell. Awsome
taste.

Contributor: Alan Boles

Yield: 2 skimpy looking pies or 1 heaping-full pie

Oooh, that does sound like a cheap and clueless company. Good on you
employees for providing each other some fellowship and Christmas
cheer.

Hopefully the lunch will have some good eats and good times!

That's a bum deal. Everyone pays the same $11, except the people who get
picked to provide desserts. So now everyone gets to pay $11 and the same deal
costs you $39. And if you complain about it you the Scrooge.

How does this pie cost you an extra $28?

Cool Whip US$2.29
Philly Cream Cheese US$2.59
Jello Vanilla US$0.99
Jello Orange US$0.99
Dole crushed pineapple US$1.59
Del Monte Mandarin orange US$0.89
Keebler lo-fat graham cracker crust US$2.34

Total of US$11.68

Those prices are without truly shopping about or substituting a
store-brand.

Just curious.

He probably didn't spend as much as the prices you listed, but he
doubled the recipe. Then is expected to pay $11 for a ticket, which is
nearly half of the $28.

I think I'd stay home sick that day!

We have two Christmas deals at work. One is a potluck where _everyone_
brings something, even if it's just ice or pop, etc. The company supplies
all the meats (usually hot roast beef and ham), and plates, flatware, etc.
The other is a dinner dance. The employee only pays for spouse, partner,
etc. It's a big event at one of our hotel ballrooms.

Plus it's Canadian dollars; no idea how that measures up but yeah, double
the recipe.

It would seem to me those making (not just running out and buying) the
dessert would get the meal ticket gratis.

Well even in Canadian dollars it seems high. Perhaps it was the addition of
the Brazilian Black Cocoa -- !

Try doubling the ingredient costs since I doubled the recipe (*mentioned
this in my post*) and throwing in (2) 9X13 foil disposable pans and a box
of oreo crumbs (*mentioned these too in my post*) so $28.32 CND counting
the (14%) sales taxes on the pans. Would you like to see the Bill? I
didn't buy anything other than the supplies required. So considering the
exchange rate it is a good thing I live up here as it is cheaper. But
Canadian or US it still sucks. Oh the black Brazillian Cocoa I used I had
purchase a while ago and never counted that in or the sugar and the
butter used in making the crust. So if you really want to get picky my 11
dollar lunch will cost me approx $40-$45 counting all costs Except my
time, gas and car wear, electrcity(fridge and mixmaster), water and soap
(clean up). I'll throw in free delivery as I work there.

Post while waiting the 2 or 3 minutes for a compile (or other batch job)
to finish, or from a laptop or Blackberry while attending a boring
meeting, or just as an occasional mental diversion when ones brain is
fried from concentrating on real work for too long.

Hypothetically, of course.

Then there's some of us that have an avatar that posts for us when we
are busy doing other things...

Job? What job. I took an early retirement and haven't worked since last June. I
highly recommend it :-)

That's a better deal than we had. I used to work for the government. We used
to organize a luncheon on Christmas Eve. When I ran the Coffee Club we had
enough money in the fund to pay for at a nearby Chinese buffet, which everyone
seemed to like. We would go for lunch at noon and then after lunch we were
free to go home. When I transferred to another branch we did something
similar. I made reservations at a local restaurant but everyone paid for
their own lunch and drinks, and then we headed home after the party.

That worked well for a few years until someone filed a grievance. He was
****ed off that he was not scheduled for work the day of the party and
insisted that he should also be given a half day off like everyone else had
had. That ended the half day off, the closest thing we ever got to a
Christmas bonus. The next two years it was an after hours party at a
restaurant bar organized by one of the other staff. I didn't bother going. I
figured that if my "company" wouldn't even give me a few hours once a year for
a celebration it wasn't worth celebrating with co workers. I went out and
partied with my friends instead. I worked in a sub office and only saw one of
my workers once or twice a week. The rest of the the people I saw once ever
month or two.

Why in the world are we busting anyones chops over prices?????? Sometimes
