I think this might be what you're looking for:

If that's not it, combine in a blender equal parts of:

white miso
apple cider vinegar
vegetable oil.
You can toss in a chopped onion or a clove of garlic too.

Pat,

The important part of the dressing is the vinegar.

The flavor of Rice vinegar is essential.

From there on in salt, pepper, sugar and a neutral oil is all you need. I
do like to add garlic, soy and sesame oil.

Rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, and a little bit of sesame oil + garlic and
ginger if you like. I like it vinegary so I don't use any oil but YMMV.

Hi All,

When I was a kid, my first experience with oriental salad dressing was at
the Benihana in Los Angeles in roughly 1972. I thought it was absolutely
marvelous. Over the last 25 years, I've eaten in more than 500 japanese
restaurants and all had some variant of the original Benihana. None of them
tasted quite the same or as good, in my opinion. Some years ago, I
discovered the original recipe on internet and made it at home. It was
exactly as I remembered it! You'll be surprised that some of the
ingredients are common American items. Please try it. Here it is. v/r
Doug from Massachusetts.

1/2 cup minced onion
1/2 cup peanut oil
1/3 cup rice vinegar
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
2 tablespoons minced celery
2 tablespoons ketchup
4 teaspoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1. Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend on high speed for about 30
seconds or until all of the ginger is well-pureed.

Makes 1 3/4 cups.

Instead of the sugar use honey, and blend in a blob of peanut butter... goes
great with a salad composed of shredded napa and mustard greens

An entire cup of soy sauce... have a little salt why doncha! Seems more like
some kind of marinade (or perhaps a dipping sauce) rather than a salad
dressing. Where did you find this, or did you just now make it up via fingers
on keyboard.

Sheldon, I agree. It's also good on fresh spinach too.
