Try Kill if Xref contains ":*.*:"

Since crossposts require an extra colon between other newsgroups, this
might work.

Yep. That's because he always includes that one group. See if just the word
cardiology works. It does on mine.

My server must be better than I thought. I don't notice
that stuff here and I don't filter either. The only poster
I'd filter if I could is Dr. C and he's easy enough to
ignore.

Are you saying your filter has affected Pastorio in threads
that are not Chung related???

The filter kills anything posted to the cardiology group ... a lot of
Pastorio's posts are cross posted to the cardiology group. Some are
about Chung, some are not.

I tried cardiology and it appeared not to do the job. When I gave the
full group name the filter snagged them all. Don't know what to make of
that. I'll try it again later and see what happens.

In Xnews, I can filter crossposts two ways:

1. I can set the thing to killfile any posting with a particular
newsgroup in its list of newsgroups, or

2. I can limit the number of newgroups posted to that I will accept,
i.e. 3, 2, or 1. This is indiscriminate but very effective to killfile
trolls like we had a while back. As they insisted on crossposting to
five newsgroups, I could eliminate 99% of their traffic by setting my
margin at 3. You can also set that at 1 so you will killfile any post
that was sent to two or more newsgroups.

This is no doubt why Xnews has become just about the most popular 3rd party
Windows newsreader in the last couple years.

I dunno. He certainly doesn't do it all the time. Bob Pastorio is still
has a (welcome) presence on my newsreader, so he's not sending
everything to the cardiology group.

I notice this morning that 27 posts have been snagged by my kill filter
(since yesterday afternoon). Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to
find out what posts the filter caught. I expect that some are cardiology
group posts, others are likely a particularly noxious and childish
political troll.

Dave W.
