Ah, Brahms ! That well-known Italian composer........
In fact, historical research has already covered the original poster's enquiry ( whoever it was : I've only got the "re"s ) When Verdi went to St. Petersburg to supervise the final compositional stages, casting, rehearsing and performances of "La Forza del Destino" ( aaarghh, the horror, the horror !...) he drew up for Strepponi's benefit a complete list of all the food and drink he would need to be forwarded for his consumption whilst in Russia. Julian Budden prints it entirely in the relevant volume - II, I think - of his Verdi biography ( it involves truckloads of pasta, salami, olives and vino.) And, of course, Rossini's recipes survive - and in some cases thrive - to this very day. SJT, suddenly feeling quite peckish........ |
