"Finding happiness in a frugal, active lifestyle can spare us a future
of pills and hypochondria." (in the bottomline section of their paper where they list what their study adds to what is currently known in this area of nutrition for cardiovascular disease) Full text link: http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/conte.../329/7480/1447 And that is the bottomline. (Many astute readers of medical literature probably started suspecting a satirical parody from the outset just by reading the word "tastier" in the title :-) Sidebar note(s): (1) One part of being frugal is eating less especially if you are overweight. (2) Joy is more powerful than happiness and is attainable by all who accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. (3) Discussion about this satirical parody known as the "polymeal diet" is actually on-topic for the newsgroups this is being cross-posted to :-) Hope these comments enlightens those who need enlightening. Of course it was a spoof. You only have to look at the BMJ cover page
to know that. They are taking a leaf from the CMAJ, who have for years done an annual Xmas humour issue. In my humble opinion the Canucks do it better. Eat and exercise the BMJ authors are saying. They picked up on every food pitched to us over the year but that doesn't detract from their very serious message (inherent in all satire): Stop looking for a pill to fill every ill. And they were also satirizing their own profession. Too often the medcial profession forgets they aren't just pitchmen. But again in my opinion, Canucks did that better too. Here is Canadian David Sackett, also in the BMJ: Harlot: Plc An amalgamation of the world's two oldest professions http://tinyurl.com/4yfdt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.bmj.com Christmas Double Issue * Amnesia in the movies bears little relation to reality * Why the human eye cannot detect offside in football * A field guide to experts: Are you peacock, turkey, or dodo? * Can you tell your clunis from your cubitus? * Polymeal reduces cardiovascular disease by more than 75% Christmas competition: design a Polymeal and much, much, more ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Canadian Medical Association Journal annual Xmas issue: http://www.cmaj.ca/ Auscultations Acquired growth hormone deficiency and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in a subject with repeated head trauma, or Tintin goes to the neurologist Incidence of and risk factors for nodding off at scientific sessions| Flashbacks Medical House blues In other words Cinderology: the Cinderella of academic medicine ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My favourite comes from the CMAJ Xmas 2000 satirical issue. I posted it here a couple weeks ago, and also last year at this time. Pathology in the Hundred Acre Wood: a neuroldevelopmental perspective on A.A. Milne http:// www.cmaj.ca/cgi/content/full/163/12/1557 Cheers Zee (eating chocolate) |

Do you think that you could manage the intricacies of a corkscrew? > Sidebar note(s): > > (1) One part of being frugal is eating less especially if you are > overweight. I would re-think that statement. Frugal means caution in spending, not reduction in food consumption. Eating junk food could be considered frugal in that it often costs less than eating well. Keep up the good work.
