"Goulash" is a catch-all name for a skillet casserole made with hamburger.
Perhaps the name was intentionally misadapted to **** off any Hungarians
and Gypsies who heard it :-)

Around here, it would be called "hotdish" (one word).

Best regards,
Bob

First time I ever had dinner at Jim and Terry's and they said they were
serving "goulash" I expected a rich, beefy stew with lots of paprika. What
they served was the equivalent of something Chef Boyardee makes (the name
escapes me) made with ground beef, macaroni and spaghetti sauce. Not saying
it was bad, mind you. But you know how it is when you set your palate to
one thing and wind up with something completely different!

Friends! Does sound like a restaurant, though, doesn't it? Trust me, this
was no restaurant ;-)
