![]() Has anyone noticed that in his shows over the last few weeks he seems unnaturally smiley and upbeat? Similar to the old "Essence of Emerils" and "Emeril Live." of today. I have this theory that the Food Network thought he was too Ho Hum and suggested he modify his TV persona. Does anyone agree? Please....no "who gives a crap" responses. As a Food TV junkie, I think a good show is one where the recipes sell themselves. It's not all about the chef's personality (albeit there is lower limit there). Case in point: Emeril's recipes are great (and always have been), but because of all the showmanship and repetitive catchey phrases and sayings, I can't watch it anymore. Of course, because of the economics of Emeril, I don't expect any changes....ever. There is a lot of money to be made off people who think a home is a single story rectangle with wheels and that parmesan comes in a green can. Back to George....although I'm not overweight or on a low carb diet, it's clear to me that George has something wonderful to offer this incredibly obese society in which we live. I don't want to see it go away because of phoney smiles and unnatural hand waving. Fix his teeth and keep him the way he was. Doug from Massachusetts |

>unnaturally smiley and upbeat? Well Doug. Let me say this I do like the man. However, I think some of his recipes are a little. Well let's say €¦OFF. Some guy was there, he really, really liked Hash browns, good old low carb threw some cauliflower into a frying pan, and the guy was eating it up and smiling. Let me say this. I like cauliflower as much as the next person but Fried cauliflower is NOT hash browns. Not in this life anyway. Amber in Central Illinois |

Sometimes I want to dumb that garbage bowl onto her head and cork her mouth with some "EVOO." Yech. She's a little much, but I believe like Giada D., she is exactly like that on and off the show. Whereas Georges' transformation is unnatural and phoney. All the Best, Doug from Massachusetts |

First of all, the idea of re-creating our favorite fatty dishes with alternative, flavorful ingredients is a good one...which many people may adopt and love. He needs to take his "flaming" personality and kick it down a notch. We wouldn't want to turn off the homophobes that inhibit most of the South and Midwest. I am not one, being from the state that allows same sex marriage. And what's with that hair? It looks like he sprays on that black stuff or something...I can't quite put my finger on it. Take a look next time and you'll see what I mean. Finally, each and every person he has on the show "ooh and ahh" over his recreation. Phoney Baloney. Just once, I'd like to hear someone say, "You know, this is very tastey and I'll probably make it often.......but it ain't gonna replace hash browns..." Doug from Massachusetts |

Whereas Georges' transformation is unnatural and phoney. i have to say, i agree with you both. pardon the typing, please. george is much more hyper these days. and watching rachael ray interview someone on that new show of hers last week, i could not believe the new level of hysteria she reached. out of control. i did turn it off, it was so irritating. nancy |

Here I am in the south and I didn't even catch that? Perhaps there are homophobes in places other than the South and Midwest too? I agree about that hash brown "alteration".. that was pretty lame. But some of his recipes appear quite tasty with the alterations made. Goomba |

The RR shows between Thanksgiving, running up to Christmas, where she has the new hair color and eye make up, she was just too over scintillating. I actually like RR, but. . .do you remember the Batman movie where Jack Nicholson is the Joker? I swear, she actually held her mouth in that exact same shape throughout each show. It was freaky. I do think some of these cooking show personalities are a little over the top on the air or create an affectation for the audience. I know for a fact Rick Bayless doesn't normally talk like a addled pre-school teacher in real life. But, I don't let it bother me. I'm in it for the recipes and he's got some good'uns. nb |

Bayless creeps me out! I recall seeing a show he did with his family in Mexico. I felt like something untoward might happen at any moment. I would just buy one of his books for the recipes. |
